49ers QB’s Birth Mom to be on WDUN

Gainesville, GA - When Heidi Russo gave up her baby boy to be adopted, she never thought that one day she’d be watching him play in Super Bowl XLVII on national television.  However, that is exactly what happened Sunday night when San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick took the field.  Russo is Kaepernick’s birth mother, and the two have not seen each other since he was an infant.

“He was born in 1987 and I had him for six weeks,” Russo told Denver TV station KDVR during a previous interview. “Then I was fortunate enough and blessed with Rick and Teresa who adopted him.”  She went on to say that it was one of the hardest decisions she ever made, but she knew it was the right one because of the circumstances at the time.

Heidi Russo will join The Ken Coleman Show on WDUN AM550/FM102.9 on Tuesday Feb. 5th at 5:20pm ET to talk about her decision to put her son up for adoption, and her experience watching him silently from the sidelines.  Ken Coleman is himself a father of two adopted boys, and is excited to have Russo share her story.

“I’m honored to help shed light on the story of Colin Kaepernick's birth mother Heidi Russo.  In the beautiful stories of adoption, we often overlook the courageous and inspiring heroism that birth mothers display when they make the heart breaking decision to sacrifice their emotions for the future of their child, “stated Coleman.

It seems she made a decision that was best for Colin at the time. Why, only lately has she been interested in making contact with him? She had 25 years to do this and didn't seem in any rush.

Football Dude - you bring up a good question - perhaps that will be asked of her during the interview -

She claims that she couldn't go on with her own life as long as she kept in contact with the Kaepernick's about Colin. Apparently, she choose to break all contact when he was about age seven. That action doesn't seem to be something that a loving, caring parent would do. How crippling to her life was it to know how a birth son that she had no responsibility for-physically, emotionally, or financially-was doing? No wonder he isn't interested in striking up a relationship with her now.

I agree with Football Dude. Her motives seem suspicious and Kaepernick may see that too. The interview should be interesting.
