Five Pinecrest Sophomores Spend Six Weeks as Missionaries

Five sophomore girls from Pinecrest Academy -- Ave Fouriezos, Katherine Tropea, Hannah Kelley, Nicole Madda, and Yasmin Martins -- spent six weeks over the summer as missionaries.

The girls participated in the International ECYD Mission Corps program, during which teens from all over the world give six weeks to serve the Catholic Church each summer. Their role might include serving the poor, elderly, unborn, unloved or homeless, or, team leading local, national, or international camps.

Nicole Madda who was assigned to the New England travel team said, “My highlight was serving the homeless in the Bronx in New York, and while we slept on cement floors and it was super hot, it was incredible to see the joy in their faces.”

Having spent six weeks with four others from the United States and five from international cities, Nicole added, “My low point was leaving the other missionaries, as it seemed like we have known each other for years, but we have planned to reunite at the National March for Life in Washington, DC in January 2013.”

For more information on this missionary program, contact the local coordinator, Sofia Lobeira, at sloberia@regnumchristi.net.

The program is open to public, home and private school teens.
