UPDATE: Anti-Obama Billboard Surfaces in Forsyth County for a Short Time

The electronic billboard with anti-messages about President Obama have been taken down.

Update: 10-29-12, 1:50 p.m.

Cumming Patch received the following press release on Monday, Oct. 29, by the Forsyth County Republican Party that was dated Oct. 26, 2012.

The Forsyth County Republican Party does not condone the inappropriate billboard messages recently posted along Highway 400, and calls upon the sign company to remove them.

These messages detract from the Republican Party’s positive message that Gov. Romney has the skills and experience to improve our nation’s economy, command our nation’s military, and preserve our Constitution.

“This election is about issues, not name-calling," said Ethan Underwood, Chairman of the Forsyth County GOP, in the press release.

"Americans want a president with vision, who believes in us as a people, to guide us out of these hard economic times. Voters are looking for someone to vote for – not against. The Forsyth County Republican Party believes that when voters examine the issues logically, they will conclude that Mitt Romney is the best candidate for the job.”

Commuters traveling northbound on Georgia 400 in Forsyth County Friday may have noticed a series of messages on a electronic billboard that were critical of President Barack Obama.

11Alive News reported that the rotating messages read:

  • "Worst President Ever"
  • "100% Anti-Obama"
  • "More Jobs Less B.O."
  • "I was Anti-Obama Before Anti-Obama Was Cool"
  • "Comrade Obama"

Cumming Patch went to the site of the electronic billboard around 6 p.m., but all messages were taken down.

The electronic billboard, located off GA 400 just north of Peachtree Parkway (Exit 13), is owned by a Buford company called Revolution Billboards, according to 11Alive News.

The Atlanta television news station reported that the president of the Forsyth County Republican Women reached out to the news station Friday afternoon, "to emphasize that the party has nothing to do with the sign, and that they do not condone the placement of such a sign."

Peggy Green said "the county Republican Party has been working very hard to make sure that people know that they are not supportive [of] a message like the one of the billboard."

Tom McElroy who saw the billboards and captured the messages on his smart phone told Fox 5 Atlanta, "It was very important for me to get this video. I like to gather archival information about this election because of its importance."

Tell Us: Did you see the messages? What are your thoughts about the messages?

You are such a deluded fool that you think you will be any better off with Romney. The Republican party is so scared actually putting forward a candidate that would actually do the right by this nation and not line his own pockets they vote for this shiester. Ron Paul even though I dont agree with some of the things he says he is a man of conviction and principle has never once shifted his position, Romney on the other hand changes is position more time than he changes his socks, you think over night he will turn the country around. He is going to sell this country out piece by piece from under your feet and by the time you figured it out it will be to late. His numbers do not add up everything he has said he is gambling that by his tax cuts that all of a sudden the economy will do this sudden change around and overnight we are back in 5-6% growth this is the only way his tax and spending plans will work and if they don't you think its bad now. All you have to do it look at the UK when they elected there conservative goverment. Corportate tax reduction, top rate of income tax slashed, Spending cuts of upto 30% and what have they got for it an economy that that has just grown at a meesly 1% after coming out of a double dip recesiion and despite all the cuts they still have a budget deficit and the national debt is still growing.

Wow thats really big of them putting up an anti obama sign to influence a county that is predominatly 90% Republican and would have never voted for him anyway. Why didnt they go into Fulton, Dekalb etc and put it up there. Thats like holding an anti pork demostration in a mosque

Freedom of speech, people! We can listen to the left wing media constantly spew lies and hate but something mildly controversial towards the left becomes an outrage? Free speech somehow only seems to be a right when it's of your own opinion. I thank God I live in Forsthy County and am proud of the people living here!

Obama is so far from being a marxist you really should go back to school and learn social politics.

This is coming from a county where they have some of the most corrupt county officails in the State (I would say country but have no proof of that as all local politicians of theives) and the city residents have voted for one the most corrupt dictatorial mayor for the last 40yrs while he has been lining his pockets.

I agree!! Romney changes his story to appeal to whatever group/debate/state/demographic he happens to be talking to! No one knew the extent of the devastation that past administrations did to the economy. In light of that fact, Obama has done an incredible job moving us in the right direction. And could have done more if the Republicans would vote for what's best for the country instead of what's best for their own personal agenda!

Do we really want a president who "believed" differently when running for governor of Massachusetts and then conveniently changed his beliefs when running for president? Do we really want a president who believes half of Americans consider themselves victims, which would include retirees and military? Do we really want a guy up there in the white house who has no idea what it is to struggle to make ends meet? Vote OBAMA 2012!

To the owners of the sign: WAY TO GO! Don't let the blinded, ignorant, Obamabots keep you from your rights!
To the Forsyth County Republican Women: where's your backbone when it counts?!? There was nothing wrong with those messages. If Neil Stapley can be heard on his public forum of choice, why can't the sign owners be heard on theirs?

I'm not surprised. Forsyth County has a very long ugly history when it comes to race and politics. I've lived here for the last 20 years and have seen their attitude up close and personal. It's gotten less blatant and obvious lately but when I first moved up here the KKK was holding a rally at the Court House.

The Democratic Party needs to plant itself in the South and win this region back. It can be done but it's going to take getting the truth out to the people that voting for Republicans is actually hurting them. With time and diligence, I think enough people would come around and start voting for Democrats, again.

In any case, President Obama got a vote from this forsyth county resident this morning. I know he won't win GA. but I'm confident he will re election. So, that's something I can hang my hat on.

Well said! I will also be celebrating when Obama is voted back for another 4 years to continue the fight to make this country great again. The Republicans won't be happy until they've pushed us back to the 1950s when women, gays, Latinos, African-Americans, and anyone who wasn't Christian was considered a second class citizen - or worse! And for the record, I am a white, Christian straight woman in my 50's. This country will only be strong when we accept and embrace all people of all races and religions. The radical right is going to be in for a rude awakening in a few short years when being white and Christian is no longer the majority!

Someone needs to put these billboards all over Ohio so that swing state will realize what an Amateur Obama is. Why do people want more government control and imposition in their lives from B.O. ?

Shame on those who call non-racial issues "racist". Not a single item on that board was about race. You're a perpetuator of racial hatred and division. If the half-white president had been born on the lighter-skinned side, what THEN would you use as an excuse for the opposition he reaps from disappointed Americans?? The billboard remarks were about the fact that he's A HORRIBLE PRESIDENT! Black, white, red or green!

Bridgett. I am not against the sign, all I am saying its very easy for the owners to be bashing the president in a county where 90% of the electorate isn't going to be voting for the president send your message 20 miles down 400 where your message is more likely going to influence or are they too scared to. Secondly Do I think the sign was racist, No I don't but comparing the President to a far right facist and far left marxist at the same time shows you the idiocy of the people putting the sign up very much inline with the Idiot Fleps in the Westboro Baptist Church with the placards at dead soldiers funnerals. But there is your freedom of speach where an organisation can use to very different historical figures with very different socio-political ideologies and use them to attempt to make a comparison to President because lets scare everybody by using these 2 nasty evil men from history.

When another 5000 American troops are getting needlessly murdered for a fictitious cause, when the growth flatlines and you realise that perhaps Romneys 5 point plan was infact a fabrication just to get your vote and his numbers we created somewhere between coocoo land and Lalala land, when his tax plans will put an even bigger burden on the middle class as well as national debt, where he says he will create 12 million jobs but then says goverment doesn't create jobs and fails to mention millions that have been lost due to the asset stripping by greedy assett strippers chasing that easy buck, his tax plans won't bring a single one of those jobs that were lost to China and India back to our shores. I will gladly put up a sign in Forsyth county saying" We told you he was a Liar" with a big picture of Romney comparing him to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Chez Guevara.

We live in a globalised economy where events happening in London and Paris effect the pockets of people living in Atlanta and Detroit, The housing crash then the financial crash, now the soverign debt crisis in Europe and the overall downward trend of the Global growth forcast all effect us and that isn't going to change. The Euro is going to fail sometime within the next 4 years and when that happens Romenys 5 point plan won't mean diddly squat.

Is there really a story here? The first amendment still guarantees freedom of speech and expression (but with this guy in office who knows how long that will last). Was this action that offensive? That depends on your perspective. What is offensive to many is the undo attention being paid to this advertisement by this wanna-be news service and its way over the top liberal editor. Had this billboard been about Governor Romney would it have been given even a moments notice, let alone reported by patch? Highly doubtful.
