Arrest Made In Shooting Death of Forsyth County Man
A 77-year-old man has been arrested and charged with one count of murder in the death of his son-in-law.
Authorities have arrested a man in connection with Thursday night's fatal shooting in a north Forsyth County subdivision, according to a news release by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.
Larry Martin, 77, of Cumming, has been arrested and charged with one count of murder in the death of his son-in-law Ronald E. Priester of Aldridge Court located in the Lake Astoria subdivision.
According to Sheriff Ted Paxton, Martin lived in the basement of the Priester home and was at the residence when deputies arrived Thursday night after responding to a 911 call that someone had been shot.
“We have recovered what appears to be the weapon used to kill Mr. Priester,” said Sheriff Paxton.
Priester's wife discovered her husband's body, killed by an apparent gunshot wound, in the family home around 8 p.m. She had just returned from an out-of-town business trip.
A neighbor told Fox 5 Atlanta that the Priester's were newlyweds and that she would see Ronald Priester spend time with his daughter.
"He was a great dad. I'd see him coming home with his daughter at 8 in the morning. They'd been out fishing. They were just out yesterday throwing the football in the front yard. He would wave and smile,” said Julie Martin.
Glen Smith, another neighbor said, "It's a tragic accident, I don't know it's just what it sounds like."
As the investigation continues, Martin is being held in the Forsyth County Detention Center on no bond.
Forsyth County sheriff's crime scene unit and investigators worked through the night into Friday retrieving evidence and information regarding the homicide.
