Jim Boff, Forsyth County Board of Commissioner for District 5 and current BOC chairman, announces his candidacy for re-election, in an e-mail to Cumming Patch.

"After a good deal of reflection, I have decided to run for re-election to the Office of Commissioner for District 5 in Forsyth County," said Boff.

Boff who was elected in 2008, retired from a career in technical sales support of voice, data and optical fiber switches. Prior to taking office, he served as chairman of Forsyth County’s SPLOST VI Citizens Transportation Projects Selection Committee. This committee prioritized road projects to be completed with the use of SPLOST VI funds.

"The experience I have gained in the last few years as your commissioner, along with my previous business experience in the technology sector contribute to my effectiveness and ability to understand the sometimes complex issues that come before the Board of Commissioners on a regular basis," he said.

During his current term he has voted against several controversial decisions including, HUD 108, United Community Bank and additional benefits to past elected officials.

Boff said he has tried to work for what was right – especially for homeowners.

"I have voted to keep taxes low, provide a credible level of service and service quality, keep commitments to voters, and to follow the laws regarding politics," he said. "I have been open with information to all."

He also worked to help private enterprise remove hazardous methane from a landfill on Melody Mizer Road.

Boff noted that he applies common sense, consideration and fairness in his decisions.

"This year we will have the Local Option Sales Tax which by law must be renegotiated, along with the contract for water from the City of Cumming which is up for renewal," he said. "All county residents are affected by these negotiations and I will work to see that this is done as equably and fairly as possible."

Boff, his wife Cindy and their two daughters, Emily and Lillian have lived in Forsyth County for nearly 14 years. They attend Cumming First United Methodist Church.
