Caney Creek Preserve, New Forsyth Park Opens

Caney Creek Preserve is the first of four new green space passive use parks Forsyth County will be opening this summer.

A ribbon cutting ceremony Friday officially opens Forsyth County's newest park, Caney Creek Preserve.

The approximately 63-acre green space passive use park is located at 2755 Caney Road, west of the intersection of Caney Road and Brookwood Road in south Forsyth.

In addition to the 1.2 miles of walking trails, a dog park, two pavilions, and natural amphitheater, the park features a one-of-a-kind playground with an archeological dig site and water play area.

Caney Creek Preserve is the first of four new green space passive use parks Forsyth County will be opening. The other three – Haw Creek Park, Chattahoochee Pointe and Old Atlanta Park – are scheduled to open late next week.

The Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond approved by Forsyth County voters in February 2008, funded acquisition of the land for these four new parks, according to a press release. Construction of the parks was funded by a combination of the Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond, Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) and Impact Fees.
