Cumming Elementary Principal Kisses Pig at Boosterthon Event

As many as 900 elementary students ran to raise money for their school while parents and Boosterthon members cheered them on.

Students at Cumming Elementary School recently ran more than 1,500 miles as part of the Boosterthon Fun Run event.

The miles added up as the 900 elementary students ran to raise money for their school while parents and Boosterthon members cheered them on. Leading up to the Boosterthon Fun Run event on Nov. 15, students gathered pledges for each lap they ran and were immersed in a 9-day Boosterthon program that inspired students to live healthy, character-filled lives. Students participated in a special challenge to get a pledge from all 50 states with the incentive that their principal had to kiss a pig.

Mrs. Pajerski honored her agreement with students and kissed the pig at each grade level’s Fun Run event.

This school year, Boosterthon’s new character theme, Highway USA, taught Cumming students how to make good choices. Each day, students experienced lessons in leadership, character, education, fitness and the importance of a positive attitude. Along the way, students learned from "Highway Heroes," influential figures of the past whose lives were marked by a single choice that made a positive impact on the world. Highway Heroes included Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Edison, Glenn Cunningham and Amelia Earhart.

“We know that by investing in the next generation, everyone wins,” said Chris Carneal, Boosterthon founder and president. “We want Highway USA to be a life-changing experience for each student. By making this Boosterthon’s most interactive and engaging program to date, we are creating an unforgettable experience for students, while instilling in them powerful life lessons.”

Through Boosterthon’s “Pass it Forward” giveback initiative, each student who reaches the giveback reward level will be a part of the 1-for-1 initiative which will give both the student and a child in a local hospital a basketball hoop for their bedroom or hospital room. Students at Cumming Elementary earned enough rewards for Boosterthon to deliver over 35 basketball hops to children in a local hospital.

Cumming Elementary plans to use the funds raised through the Boosterthon program to purchase new playground equipment.
