Cumming Man Charged with Sex Crimes

A Cumming man faces 11 sex crimes for allegedly posing as a teenage girl on Facebook to elicit sexual images from middle-school age boys, according to authorities.

investigators arrested 31-year-old Brendan J. Spaar Tuesday night and charged him with four counts of child molestation, four counts of sexual exploitation of children and three counts of computer pornography.

According to Investigator J.D. Roe of the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit of the Criminal Investigations Division, Spaar had created a fictitious page on Facebook, posing as a 16-year-old girl from  with the name of Kinsey Spencer.

“This girl does not exist,” said Roe in a news release. “We have checked with the school and no person by this name has ever attended South Forsyth. We are not sure of where he got a girl’s photo to post on his site.”

Spaar used his Facebook page to meet boys and begin a relationship.

“Once he established a relationship, he convinced the boys to provide their cell phone numbers so he could send explicit photos of a female that the boys believed was Miss Spencer," said Roe. "Then, Spaar enticed the boys to send sexually explicit photos and video of themselves to him through their cell phones. The boys thought the images were going to Miss Spencer.”

No physical contact ever occurred between Spaar and the four victims that have been identified.

“There could be other victims we are not aware of,” Roe said. “If anyone recognizes the name that Spaar was posing under and had contact with him through this fictitious site, please contact the sheriff’s office at 770-781-2200.”

In February a middle-school administrator alerted investigators about the alleged "sexting." They have been on the case since then. The case remains under investigation.

Spaar is currently being held in the  with no bond.

A new state law allows authorities to charge a person with child molestation if any person electronically transmits sexually explicit images of a child under the age of 16, according to the sheriff's office.
