Cumming Police Arrest Two Men in Connection with Store Robbery

Anonymous tips led investigators to the suspects.

Cumming Police, with assistance from the Hall County Sheriff's Office, have arrested two men for allegedly robbing the Puff N Stuff Smoke Shop located at 410 Atlanta Road last month.

Elmer Matthews, 18, and John S. Poss, 22, both of Flowery Branch were arrested early Tuesday morning outside their homes, located "a few doors apart" and each charged with theft by taking felony and armed robbery, according to Sgt. Bryan Zimbardi.

The arrests stem from a Feb. 29 incident in which surveillance video shows a man walking in the store appearing to be a customer. A few moments later a second man enters the store. Zimbardi said the armed robber then grabs the customer puts a gun to his head and demands money from the clerk.

The video shows the suspect leave the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. The customer also leaves the store without giving any information to the clerk or waiting for the police to arrive.

Anonymous tips led investigators to the homes of the suspects and revealed that the gunman and the supposed victim were involved in the execution of the robbery, according to Zimbardi.

Matthews and Poss are currently in the Forsyth County Detention Center awaiting bond to be set.

"The Cumming Police Department would like to publicly thank the concerned citizens who provided the information necessary to bring these two criminals at large to justice," Zimbardi said.
