Drunk Driver Almost Runs Over Deputy

Sept. 11, a deputy was sent out to the Pine Ridge Mobile Home Park on Atlanta Highway in reference to a drunk person. Upon arrival the deputy got out of his vehicle and walked through the park looking for the suspect.

The deputy noticed a pick-up truck driving in reverse towards him and yelled at the driver to stop while flashing a bright light at the truck.The deputy feared he was about to be struck by the pick-up and jumped out of its path. As the driver passed the deputy he hit a railroad tie and ran over a 55 gallon trash can getting stuck on top of it.

Trying to get the driver’s attention the deputy began slapping the truck and flashing his light but to no avail. The driver screeched his tires on the pavement to dislodge his truck from the trash can and sped off up the street.

The 27-year-old man was finally caught after trying to run into one of the trailers in the park. He was handcuffed and charged with Obstructing An Officer and DUI.

Storage Sheds Burglarized

Sept. 10 and 11, deputies responded to two different theft calls from sheds. A homeowner at Chestatee Bay subdivision told the deputy the lock off his shed had been broken and a Craftsman chainsaw, two bow saws and a weed eater had been stolen.

Then a resident at Truman Mountain Road reported that his Echo PB 410 blower, a Stihl MS 250 chain saw, a Stihl FS55R weed eater, a Portor Cable PC3PAK air compressor, a Makita 5007MG skill saw and a Honda EB3000C generator, totaling approximately $3000 were stolen.

Boat Snagged From Dock

Sept. 10, a deputy responded to a theft call on Reives Road. The resident reported that his 2008 Bentley pontoon boat was not tied to his boat dock and was last seen Sept. 5.

He further stated that he had received a call from the Department of Natural Resources who had received a call from an individual reporting an abandoned boat near Lockheed Long Hollow Park.

After contacting the individual who reported seeing the boat, he offered to take the deputy and the owner by the boat to identify it. The owner confirmed it was his boat.

Observation of the boat lead the owner to report his 115 hp motor, one trolling motor, one inline battery charger, one AM/FM/CD player, two speakers, one canopy top, one captain’s chair, ten life vests, one GPS/depth finder, three boat batteries and one live well pump were missing.

Semi Automatic Pistols Missing

Sept. 10, a resident on Frix Road called the to report a theft. The owner told the deputy that he was missing a Highpoint C9 9mm semi automatic pistol along with a Taurus .45 semi automatic pistol. He stated he suspected it was someone that had been visiting his residence but was unsure.

Paradise Boat Rentals Reports Thefts

Sept. 9, three generators and one pressure washer were reported stolen from Paradise Boat Rentals on Lan Mar Road. It appears that one Honda generator was taken from each boat and the pressure washer was taken from the dock. Their camera surveillance is being used to identify the suspect.  

Five Subdivisions Report Car Break-ins

Sept. 8 and 9, deputies responded to multiple reports of car break-ins at five different subdivisions, including: Northern Oaks, Olde Union Preserve Club, Grandview at Windermere, Old Union Preserve and Longlake.

Among the list of items stolen were iPods, GPS systems, wallets, cash, radios, sunglasses and cell phones. Over the last several months the county has had an influx of car break-ins and most have been from unlocked cars in driveways.  

Home Invasion Valued at $8599

Sept. 8, homeowners at Majors Road reported to deputies that when they arrived home their front door was unlocked and ajar. According to the last visitor, he locked the door when he left earlier in the day.

Items reported stolen include; a 52 inch flat screen television, a Sony WII gaming system with remotes, a Sony Play station with remotes, an Apple desktop computer with 24 inch flat screen and wireless keyboard, two Terabyte external hard drives and various WII and Play station games. These items had an approximate value of $8599.

Fire

For the week of Sept. 5 – 12, Capt. Jason Shivers of the reported our county had no structure fires.

The department responded to three vehicle fires, four natural gas leaks, two smoke removals, six unauthorized burn calls, four no incidents found, one authorized controlled burn, one smoke scare, 14 false alarms, one brush fire, 123 medical emergencies, 25 cancelled in route calls and two stovetop cooking fires.

Fire Tip:

Baking soda is an excellent product to use in extinguishing stovetop grease fires.
