UPDATE: Fisherman Finds Body Near Mary Alice Park

Authorities hope that the victim is George Counts, who has been missing since his boat was found empty on Lake Lanier a month ago.

UPDATE: 3-18-13, 11:15 p.m.

The body of a man, who had been missing on Lake Lanier since Feb. 18, has been identified, according to Melissa Cummings, spokesperson for the Department of Natural Resources.

"Identification was confirmed today [Monday] following an autopsy identifying the victim as 47-year-old George Marty Counts of Tucker, Georgia," said Cummings.

Cummings added that no cause of death has been listed yet and there was no apparent trauma shown.

"So, for example - it does not appear that he fell and struck his head or otherwise causing him to fall overboard, but cannot yet rule out other health issues, such as a heart attack," she said.

Counts body was discovered in the Little Ridge area of Lake Lanier in Forsyth County by two fishermen on Sunday.

Forsyth County authorities hope a body found by a fisherman near Mary Alice Park is that of a Tucker man missing for a month after his boat was first seen running in circles on Lake Lanier.

After the body was found Sunday morning, Forsyth County deputies pulled it from the lake, according to WSB-TV.

George Counts, 47, of Tucker, went missing on Feb. 18. Fishermen reported the unmanned 15-foot jon boat that was circling an area of the lake near Bald Ridge Creek at big rock. When authorities arrived they found the boat on a bank and out of gas.

The Department of Natural Resources is handling the investigation, and they have sent the body to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) for identification, said Rick Doyle, director of operations, with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, on Sunday afternoon.

Doyle said the body appears to be that of the victim, but they won't know for sure until it's confirmed by the GBI.

Forsyth County Coroner Mary Beth Pais also told Cumming Patch that an individual was removed from Lake Lanier Sunday morning.
