Forsyth Authorities Capture Fugitive in Alpharetta

The wanted man turned himself into Forsyth County deputies Thursday afternoon.

A 45-year-old man, wanted by at least three counties on various charges, turned himself into authorities Thursday afternoon at a location in Alpharetta.

Kennie Askew, of Lithonia, was arrested by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Unit at approximately 2 p.m., a press release stated.

Capt. Tim House of the FCSO said earlier in the week that Askew was wanted by authorities in Cobb County for traffic violations and in Gwinnett for probation violation.

In Forsyth County, Askew has been charged with obstructing law enforcement officers and driving with a suspended license after fleeing from a city of Milton police officer in the Bridle Ridge subdivision located off Highway 141 in south Forsyth Tuesday night. That led to a manhunt for the fugitive with assistance of K9s and a helicopter by the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office.

According to Sheriff Ted Paxton, Askew was apprehended after investigators contacted the wanted man's family and they had Askew contact the deputies. Following a conversation with Capt. Chris Barrett, Askew agreed to turn himself in and was arrested without incident.

“Thanks to the determination and experience of our Warrant Unit, Kennie Askew is in custody," said Paxton. "We’re glad to be able to ease the minds of those living in neighborhoods involved in the search on Tuesday night, and the rest of the community.”

Askew is currently being held in the Forsyth County Detention Center with bond pending, and a hold placed for Cobb and Gwinnett counties.

Was he "captured", or did he "turn himself in"? Is it me, or does all the hoopla seem a little silly? This guy is a license/traffic violator, not a drug dealer, rapist, child-molester, etc.
So he got pulled over, wasn't ready to go jail on his warrants for violating probation with traffic charges, and he ran. Helicopters, K9 units.....national guard?? ; )
C'mon. Did I miss something?

The "Hoopla" is that a desperate man that had eluded three jurisdictions of Law Enforcement while hiding somewhere within the South Forsyth community over the course of two days was otherwise quietly taken into custody...how that happened should be of some interest to all.

IMHO the best of His concerns were that someone OTHER than the Forsyth County Sheriffs Office take him into custody -- I read elsewhere this apparently for His fear of its "tough-on-crime" agency-reputation...EXACTLY what I want such character of People to fear of My local Law Enforcement!

Kudos to all Law Enforcement involved, as We are relieved to find this threat to our community abated, with a special thanks to Sheriff Ted Paxton and Our Forsyth County Sheriffs Dept. -- for their work over the last decade in keeping Forsyth County a safe place to Live, Work, Learn, and Play.

I agree with all the kudos being showered on our county's law enforcement. I am ALWAYS grateful and supportive of our officers.
On the other hand, the man's desperation and level of threat (or lack thereof) didn't seem to warrant the level of action as reported, IMO....perhaps there's more to this man's story that I haven't read. If he feared Forsyth's reputation, why didnt he choose one of the other two counties for his self-surrender?
I know it's election time and all.....maybe that's "all the hoopla". ??

Apparently there is more to this story than some may "read-into": Anyone "hot-on-the-lam" and hiding within a community is both an imminant threat to society and themselves...they will become even more irrationally desperate as time passes...that community will become fraught with un-ease -- just as South Forsyth and elsewhere nearby was over those days...and "Things" may have ended differently that they now have indeed : ?

Yep, He did call his "Mom" -- to have Johns Creek P.D. come 'n take him in to THEIR custody -- after having successfully hid from authorities for nearly three days within what few woods remain of South Forsyth County...because he did NOT want to be caught and held "Criminal" in the Forsyth County jurisdiction, and that does say something!

(Hey now, just keepin' it real ; )

What it says is that the man most likely feared being brutalized by the FCSO. Just my guess.
