Fundraiser Supports Special Olympics Softball Teams

A check for more than $2,000 was presented to Special Olympics Forsyth County this week for its Battle of the Bats Softball Invitational.

A check for more than $2,000 was presented to Special Olympics Forsyth County (SOFC) Wednesday to go toward the organization's Battle of the Bats Softball Invitational.

"This event is a multi-state softball tournament designed to enhance the competency of special needs athletes while competing in a series of very rigorous softball games," said Ron Molnar, who is active with SOFC.

During July and August local Starbucks stores conducted fund raising events to support Battle of the Bats.

Molnar who works at one of the Starbucks locations said, "The stores were fortunate to collect and present a check in the amount of $2,656.00 to Ms. Susan Darlington [Transition Coordinator for Special Olympics]."

At least 22 Special Olympic softball teams traveled from all over Georgia and bordering states to experience the Battle of the Bats, held on Aug. 27.

"The event lasted for a full day with all athletes, families, volunteers and coaches having a wonderful time competing and supporting our local economy," said Molnar.

Wednesday's presentation of the check was held at the Forsyth County Board of Education.
