Grab & Go Kids Planner: March 11-12

We found some great ways for you and the kids to spend the weekend.

 

Glad you clicked on our new Grab & Go Kids Planner! We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with the kids.

Now that the chill of winter is slowly disappearing and hints of spring are sprouting, take advantage of the nice weather coming our way this weekend by taking in a little fishing, perhaps you'll enjoy racing around a track in a quarter midget race car or take in an arts festival. Click on the links below for more details.

Whitlow Elementary Festival of the Arts

Where/When: Whitlow Elementary, 3655 Castleberry Rd., Cumming, Fri., March 11, 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Why Go: A wonderful way to spend a Friday evening with the family enjoying performances by Brien Engle, Glass Harp Music, Whitlow Elementary Chorus and Whitlow Drum Group. A school-wide student art show will be featured by Artome, along with Henna Artists, crafts, facepainters, moonwalk, snowcones, carnival games and concessions by fifth grade fine arts vendors. A bookfair will be held in the Media Center  from 3:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

The Whitlow Elementary Festival of the Arts was made possible through a grant from the Forsyth County Arts Alliance.

Price: The festival is free!


Kid's Spring National Charity Race: Kids Racing for Kids

Where/When: Cumming Fairgrounds, 120 Castleberry Rd., Sat., March 12.

Safety Instructions 7 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.
Registration 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.
Race 9 a.m.

Why Go: The Quarter Midget Racing is a family oriented sport for children ages 5 to 16. Teaching the life skills of safety, competition and sportsmanship. The North Georgia Quarter Midget Association provides a safe and rewarding first racing experience and provides a memorable family sporting activity. Quarter Midget racing is not a "drop off your kid" kind of sport, but an involved family activity.

Price: FREE!


Spring Youth Miracle League Registration

Where/When: Coal Mountain Park in the Community Building, 3560 Settingdown Rd., Cumming, underway through Sat., March 12, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Why Go: The Miracle League of Cumming-Forsyth provides physically and mentally challenged children a safe and spirited program in which they can hit, run, and catch on a baseball field.

Price: $35 per child 


Kids and Youth Fishing Derby

Where/When: Brookside Office Park Lake, 3625 Brookside Pkwy, Alpharetta, Sat. March 12, 8 a.m. - 11 a.m.

Why Go: Children ages 4 to 12 are invited to participate. Pre-registration is required for this free event (CLICK HERE). Prizes will be awarded for the longest fish and the most fish caught. Bring fishing gear and bait.

Price: FREE!


Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Where/When: 5075 Abbotts Bridge Rd, Johns Creek, Sat., March 12, 3 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Why Go: Kids and adults have an opportunity to learn more about the art and skill of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a martial art, combat sport, and a self defense system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting.

Price: FREE!
