Happy Spring Cumming!

Please pass the Sudafed!

We closed out winter with record breaking high temperatures and a pollen count in the Atlanta area that was one for the record books. At 8,164, the pollen count on the last day of winter was more than 2,000 particles of pollen per cubic meter higher than the previous record of 6,013 set on April 12, 1999.

According to the Atlanta Allergy and Asthma Clinic, however, Spring 2012 has left that record in the yellow dust - coming in at 9,368 for March 20 – the official first day of spring. Needless to say, there is a High Pollen Alert for the local area.

Relief from the yellow film covering everything comes with the rain, but there isn’t much of that predicted in the next 10 days in Cumming and Forsyth County. Beautiful sunny days with temperatures in the high 70s or low 80s are predicted, with the only chance of rain being isolated thundershowers possible over the weekend. The allergy experts, however, say it is not the yellow pine pollen that is most responsible for the misery experienced by most allergy sufferers - it’s the pollen that can’t be seen. Major pollens present in the air right now are oak, pine, mulberry, sycamore, sweet gum and birch.
