If Men Were to Experience Labor, Would the World be Less Populated?

Two Dutch men decided to give it a try. It would appear that was their conclusion.

Ever since anyone can remember it's been said that if men were to experience labor, the world would be less populated. But it is hard to explain labor, so nobody really knew. Well, a hospital in the Netherlands came up with a unique way to simulate labor and two healthy Dutch men were brave enough to give it a try — see the accompanying Youtube video with English sub-text.

Electrodes were attached to the relevant muscles and "contractions," increasing in intensity, were applied, simulating the birth experience.

At the end of the experiment, which was done humanely with midwives present at all times, it seems there probably is some truth to that saying. One of the men opted to stop before the two-hour labor simulation was complete. He questioned whether he ever wanted to get his wife pregnant and put her through that.

While preventing childbirth was not the objective, it would likely help some men have a greater appreciation for what is involved in building the family unit.

What do you think? Should an experience like this be offered to couples during prenatal classes?

I don't think the population would be in jeopardy because there are many women who refuse to go through the grueling process of child birth without drugs...myself included! I have had four children and each time had an epidural. Yes, the pain was excruciating until I reached the point where I was able to be given the epidural but it was not painful to the point where I would never do it again.

What a ridiculous experiment based upon bad science. Only the Dutch !

Easy answer. They are terrible patients when they have the least little sniffle (whiney - in bed for 3 days), when women can have the flu and still tend to kids. That would have to apply to childbirth as well. 'Nuff said!

"Electrodes were attached to the 'relevant' muscles"? Do they have wombs???

Yeah, screw that. This would be a FAR less populated world if it were up to us to carry children. Morning sickness, swollen ankles, childbirth, all the things that go along with being pregnant would not be borne very well by men. Just sayin....
