Peter Kirui from Kenya and Mamitu Daska from Ethiopia took home victories at the 43rd running of the 2012 AJC Peachtree Road Race Wednesday, July 4 in Atlanta with finish times of 27:37 and 32:22, respectively.
“We have a great field of competitors every year and this year was no exception,” said Tracey Russell, race director for the AJC Peachtree Road Race and executive director of the Atlanta Track Club, in a press release. “The AJC Peachtree Road Race is an exciting event and we are happy to share our 4th of July with the 60,000 participants at this wonderful event.”
In the Masters races, Jae Yung Hyung from Albuquerque, NM, and Sheri L. Piers from Falmouth, ME, took the men’s and women’s title with times of 31:21 and 34:38, respectively.
Aaron Gordian from Mexico and Tatyana McFadden from the USA came in first with times of 19:52 and 23:53, respectively, in the Shepherd Center Wheelchair Division.

The AJC Peachtree Road Race is a 10K event that takes place every Fourth of July in Atlanta, Georgia. The first Peachtree was held in 1970 and featured 110 runners. The AJC Peachtree Road Race is now the largest 10K running event in the world with 60,000 participants.
