“PBA is proud to support the candidacy of Duane Piper, and we look forward to working with him to support law enforcement officers in Forsyth County,” stated John Dawson, North Georgia Chapter president, in the press release.

On June 30, the North Georgia Chapter of the PBA of Georgia held a political screening of the candidates for sheriff. The screening committee members scored candidates based on their responses to questions which focused on progressive changes to meet the challenges of a dynamic environment, budget and funding, and how the candidates will work with the association to help improve the law enforcement community.

"During the interview process, Piper demonstrated why his experiences qualify him to represent the voters of Forsyth County," the press release stated.

"He also demonstrated to the North Georgia chapter that he is committed to making strong, effective law enforcement a priority in his campaign. The North Georgia Chapter of the PBA of Georgia is proud to announce our endorsement of Duane Piper for Forsyth County Sheriff."

The Police Benevolent Association of Georgia is a division of Southern States PBA. Its members are federal, state, county, and municipal law enforcement officers working in Georgia. There are currently 26 active, semi-autonomous chapters in Georgia representing nearly 7,000 members. Each chapter has a representative (usually the chapter president) serving on the Georgia Board of Directors.

The chapters and division hold screenings of political candidates in their jurisdictions because most law enforcement officers do not have the opportunity to personally talk with the candidates about issues important to law enforcement. Board members develop questions for candidates and evaluate their responses so the PBA can make informed voting recommendations to our members and the public.
