MARTA Holds Transit Meeting Tuesday Night

The agency's Connect400 team looks for transit alternatives to handle transportation needs along the highway's corridor which figure in the use of MARTA's north line.

MARTA and its Connect400 team will look for public comments Tuesday night on extending the north line from North Springs Station as it proposes developing transit connection options between the I-285/GA 400 interchange and McGinnis Ferry Road.

A public meeting will be held at Mimosa Elementary School in Roswell from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on May 22 to reintroduce the project and schedule to the community, and work with local residents to develop potential transit connection options.

This is part of MARTA's GA 400 Corridor Transit Initiative: Alternatives Analysis. On its Web site, MARTA states this "involves investigating the need for high-capacity transit connections between the Perimeter Center area near the interchange of I-285 and GA 400 in the City of Sandy Springs and McGinnis Ferry Road in northern Fulton County."

It points to statistics that say the corridor draws commuters from throughout the region. Many commuters’ trips start from this area bound for central Atlanta, Gwinnett and Cobb Counties.

"These conditions have created high levels of traffic congestion on GA 400 and the few east-west arterials which cross the expressway," the Web site states.

And it's clear MARTA plans on providing the transit answer, as the study not only is intended to identify a specific technology or local preference that meets the transit needs. MARTA plans to develop an environmental impact statement, followed by engineering and design of the transit plan.

The TSPLOST projects' list includes funding to design an extension of the north line to Holcomb Bridge Road.

E-mail Jason Morgan, MARTA's project manager, or call 404-524-1822 for information.

Its about time GDOT and the Governers office really start to take the idea of a rail extention more seriously and how to get people out of their cars. The piecemeal little projects they have experimented with thus far have done nothing to ease the traffic and on the case of the rush hour sholder use mad things worse. Turn 400 in to a toll all they way from the current toll both all the way upto 11. Then use this money to exand the train.
