News Nearby: Racist Bar Sign Reads "White House Smells Like Fried Chicken"

 - South Cobb Patch

The recent sign posted at Mulligan's Food and Spirits has some people calling the restaurant racist...again. Recently, the restaurant on Marietta's busy Roswell Street posted a sign that read, "I heard the White House smelled like collard greens and fried chicken."

Mulligan's owner Mike Norman is no stranger to posting controversial signs and even sold T-shirts depicting President Barack Obama, then a presidential candidate, as the monkey, Curious George.

Gerald Rose, founder of the New Order National Human Rights Organization, and other members of the group had planned to meet at the restaurant at 11 a.m. Tuesday to speak with Norman and hold a press conference. .

 - Canton-Sixes Patch

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has identified the man killed Sunday in an  as 53-year-old Jerome George “Jerry” Cundy of Woodstock.

Cundy allegedly robbed a Woodstock convenience store Sunday morning, then led Cobb and Cherokee law enforcement on a chase from a Marathon station on Bells Ferry Road in Woodstock and down I-75, to just south of the North Marietta Parkway. 

Police stopped the vehicle there, and Cundy aimed his gun at officers, who shot and killed him, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said Sunday. .

 - Northeast Cobb Patch

One man was killed in a traffic accident on Interstate 75 North near Barrett Parkway that saw significant traffic delays for commuters on Monday afternoon.

According to  Sgt. Dana Pierce, at 4:14 p.m. Monday the driver of a car on Interstate 75 north at Barrett Parkway was being assisted by a HERO unit. Pierce said that the driver of the vehicle suffered a "medical issue" which caused him to leave the interstate.

The car drove off I-75 and landed in a ravine, where it caught fire. The driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was killed. The accident brought six lanes of traffic on Barrett Parkway to a halt and caused significant gridlock on Interstate 75.

 - Woodstock Patch

A 16-year-old was arrested this weekend in connection with the  in Towne Lake.

According to CBS Atlanta, Cherokee sheriff's deputies received an anonymous tip Saturday evening that a truck parked at Hobgood Park had one of the custom-made flags displayed in the bed of the vehicle.

The teen was arrested, charged with theft by receiving and released to a parent. .
