Robbery Suspect Killed in I-75 Chase - East Cobb Patch

A suspect who allegedly robbed a Woodstock convenience store Sunday morning was shot and killed by police on Interstate 75 near the North Marietta Parkway, leaving southbound traffic jammed for most of Sunday afternoon.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that the led Cobb and Cherokee law enforcement on a chase from a Marathon station on Bells Ferry Road in Woodstock and down I-75, to just south of the North Marietta Parkway. 

Police stopped the vehicle there, and the suspect aimed his gun at officers, who shot and killed him, according to the AJC report, which was based on a statement issued by the Cherokee Sheriff's Office. For more on this story, visit East Cobb Patch. 


Longtime Marietta Daily Journal Publisher Brumby Dies
 - Marietta Patch

Otis A. Brumby Jr., who served as publisher of The Marietta Daily Journal since 1967 and also was a member of the state boards of education and transportation during a lengthy career in business, journalism and public service, died Saturday at the age of 72. 

He had been diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer two years ago, according to obituary published Saturday evening in his newspaper. 

The MDJ obituary said a private burial will be held next Wednesday at Dawson Cemetery, followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service at Marietta First United Methodist Church, where Brumby was a longtime member. For more on this story, visit Marietta Patch.


Rabid Cat Scratches Woman in Canton
 - Canton-Sixes Patch

A cat that scratched a woman at a Canton apartment complex has tested positive for rabies, and health officials are searching for others who might have come into contact with it.

The stray cat, described as a black and white shorthaired female, "aggressively" scratched the woman at the Cherokee South Apartments off Marietta Highway in Canton on Sept. 2, said Jennifer King, the spokeswoman for the North Georgia Health District said.

"The cat was immediately trapped and later died in its cage on Sept. 4," she said. "Cherokee County Environmental Health officials sent its remains to the state lab for rabies testing and the positive results were reported on Sept. 6." For more on this story, visit Canton-Sixes Patch.


Microsoft to Open "Holiday Store" at Perimeter Mall

Been to the Apple Store at Perimeter Mall?

Well PC fans can visit a Microsoft "holiday store" there soon, where you can check out the latest products and gadgets in time for the gift-giving season.

Microsoft announced that Perimeter Mall would be one of more than 30 "holiday stores" in the U.S. and Canada. The opening of the store is in the fall, but an exact date was not available. The store would be the only one of its kind in Georgia.
