Newt Gingrich to Speak at Forsyth GOP Meeting
The presidential hopeful will speak on Saturday during the Forsyth County GOP Mass Precinct Meeting.
Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich will speak at the Forsyth County GOP Mass Precinct Meeting on Saturday, Feb. 18. The event will be held in the cafeteria of South Forsyth High School located at 585 Peachtree Parkway and is scheduled to begin promptly at 10 a.m. – doors open at 9 a.m.
Gingrich who is vying to be the Republican candidate to take on President Obama in the November election, is expected to address more than 300 attendees at Saturday's meeting in preparation for Super Tuesday, according to the Forsyth County GOP Web site. His appearance in Cumming is the first of four stops during his visit to Georgia.
This will also be the last opportunity to take part in a county straw poll conducted by the Forsyth County Young Republicans.
Joel E. Natt, chairman of the FCYR, stated in a news release, "This will be the last opportunity for individuals to publicly express their interest in a candidate of their choice for the nomination of president for the Republican Party. It will be one of the final measures of who the residents of the county desire."
In their first straw poll conducted during the Cumming County Fair last Oct., former Republican presidential nominee Herman Cain won with more than 73 percent of those participating. The following month, during the National BBQ Cup, .
"This time should be an interesting event for all," Natt stated. "Since those two previous polls the Republican Party has seen individual’s including Herman Cain drop out and various issues arise as the Georgia Primary approaches; and with now only four candidates remaining this will clearly be the last time to publicly judge the feelings of the residents of Forsyth County on who they would like to see have the nomination."
The results of the final straw poll are expected to be announced on Saturday.

You might get the chance to ask Newt Gingrich about his votes to expand the housing bubble.
1988 – Roll Call #697, June 29, 1988 - H.R. 1158 Fair Housing Act- Newt Gingrich YES for this law.
1. Modifies the definition of a discriminatory housing practice to include acts of interfering, coercing, threatening or intimidating a person in the exercise or enjoyment of his/her rights as protected by Sections 804, 805 and 806 of this act.
2. Provides HUD with the ability to initiate complaints
In essence, HUD can now set up stings to find evidence that mortgage lenders and banks are discriminating against blacks and Hispanics. Prior to this law a complaint must have been filed by that person believing they were being discriminated against.

1992 – Roll Call #366, August 5, 1992 2:53 PM - Housing and Community Develop Act (CRA) - Newt Gingrich voted YES for this law.
In 1992, President George H.W. Bush signed the Housing and Community Development Act of 1992. The Act amended the charter of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to reflect Congress' view that the GSE’s “have an obligation to facilitate the financing of affordable housing for low-income and moderate-income families." For the first time, the GSEs were required to meet "affordable housing goals" set annually by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and approved by Congress. The CRA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the relationship between Wall Street and the Federal government caused the financial meltdown in 2008. Bankers were forced to make loans to low income people that could not repay those mortgages. In order to cover that risk CDO’s were sold to unknowing investors, banks and insurance companies, and eventually this bubble burst causing the meltdown we are living with now.

1991 – Roll Call #416, November 21, 1991 6:04 PM - H.R. 3768 Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Improvement Act (FDICIA)- Newt Gingrich voted YES for this law.
The House passed this bill with a little known amendment inserted by Christopher Dodd (D-CT). The amendment expanded the federal safety net increasing the likelihood of taxpayer bailouts. Walker F. Todd an assistant general counsel and research officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland uncovered the obscure amendment. Prior to this law only commercial banks, members of the Federal Reserve System, could access emergency funds from the central bank. The amendment to FDICA increased the availability of Fed assistance to included investment banks and insurance companies. Dodd’s constituents include most of the nation’s large insurance companies. “Moral hazard” - Access to emergency capital made bank managers less likely to exercise caution.
Thus in 2008 (TARP) the Fed rescued AIG and banks all over the world at the detriment of United States taxpayers. When Walker F. Todd tried to raise awareness Congress wanted no discussion of the expanding safety net and its costly implication for taxpayers. The Fed is printing money, inflating the dollar, and destroying the savings of American citizens.

Rick Santorum will also be in Cumming the day after, on Sunday, speaking at First Redeemer Church. It's actually just a few minutes down the road from South Forsyth High School where Newt is speaking.

Doesn't it bother you that Santorum voted for No Child Left Behind, Patriot Act, TSA, DHS, Medicare Part D, Authority to use Military Force, Sotomayor as a Federal Court Judge? Does it not bother you that he assisted getting Arlen Specter re elected as Senator in 2004 over Pat Toomey? Doesn't it bother you that he is a big gub'mint Liberal Statist Republican?

Georgia Cat - "Santorum is certainly hostile to libertarianism when it comes to matters of moral behavior and social policy, but most of the bad votes he cast in the last decade were the product of his contempt for limited and constitutional government." http://www.theamericanconservative.com/larison/2012/02/16/santorums-bush-era-mistakes-go-beyond-anti-libertarianism/

One of the reasons I will not join this church. They let statists like Santorum speak.

Thanks for the info. The Arlen thing was troubling, as are some of the other things you mentioned, especially Medicare Part D. We just can't afford all these entitlements. Santorum is the best out of the three running. Or are you for Ron Paul? <hears can of worms opening>
