Two people were taken to hospitals Tuesday morning after being involved in a two vehicle accident in north Forsyth County, authorities said.

The wreck, involving a four-door sedan and tractor-trailer, happened on Highway 369 just west of Gravitt Road at approximately 11:13 a.m.

Capt. Tim House of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said 18-year-old Katelyn Rose Koehler was driving westbound on Highway 369 in a 2009 Nissan Altima when her car crossed over the center line and into the path of the tractor-trailer.

The driver of that vehicle, whose name was not given, was traveling eastbound on Highway 369, and according to House, "tried to avoid the accident but was unable to do so."

Koehler was injured and entrapped in her vehicle and it took quite some time to remove her from the sedan, according to Division Chief Jason Shivers of the Forsyth County Fire Department.

Koehler was taken by life flight to Grady Memorial Hospital in serious condition and the other driver was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth where he was treated and released.

Highway 369 was shutdown in both directions throughout the duration of the incident. There was also an oil and diesel fuel spill.

"That caused for some extensive clean up needs from the state DOT," said Shivers. "And they had to work on that after we cleared the scene of our emergency equipment and that took quite some time."

Alcohol and drugs are not a factor in the accident and both drivers were wearing their seat belts, authorities said. The accident remains under investigation.
