What Do You Think of Trump's Big Announcement?
Donald Trump is offering $5 million to a charity of President Barack Obama's choice if the president will release his passport applications and college records.

After a lot of hype about an announcement he had that would have a significant impact on the election, businessman and one-time potential candidate for president himself, Donald Trump, made his big announcement on Wednesday. It turned out to be not as much of an announcement as it was a challenge.
On YouTube, Trump asked the president to release his college and passport applications and records. If he does, Trump pledged to donate $5 million dollars to the charity of Obama's choice. Well, OK then. A different kind of "October surprise," to say the least.
So what do you think about Trump's announcement? Something likely to have an impact on the election, or just Trump's way of keeping his own name in the news?

Donald Trump is crazy clever. A genuine American - creating something of real value - in this case, national media attention and from a zero dollar investment. Love him or hate him, he holds people accountable for the results of their decisions. I dont see it as personal, it's just business and right now, America needs business and the jobs that business brings. Obama supporters are being lured by promise of an affordable college degree. That is a hollow dream. High schools need to prepare kids to begin a career at graduation. Instead, they are only prepping them for a lifetime of college debt, auto debt, and mortgage debt. Obama needs to get America's young people on the manufacturing floors of industry. Yes, we need "green jobs" but not for the environment, but for "green workers" - young adults that don't need a four year degree to turn a wrench or a valve or a door knob to an office. A college degree is a fine objective, but a job is a necessity. So Mr. Obama, where are the apprentices that YOU should be making?

Racism is found around every corner by RACISTS, whether it's really there or NOT. If you play the race card, sometimes it makes a lot folks start to wonder if your position can't stand up to real scrutiny, thus requiring preemptive carpet bombing to protect it...
Dang, if I have to produce a birth certificate to get a GA. driver license and I don't even have my finger on the red button, what's wrong with asking "more" about those who do or are RUNNING for that level of office? After all, we aren't exactly talking about a six pack, smokes or a fifth of the cheap stuff here...

Trump may be clever but I think he goofed. Instead of letting Obama choose his charity, he should have named a specific one himself, say some poor orphanage. Show the pictures of this orphanage and what poor and sad conditions they are in and what $5 million could do. Don’t you think that would get Americans in more of an uproar for Obama to release the info? And then of course, even if Obama doesn’t take the offer you still give at least $1 million to the orphanage and I'll take the other $4 million for coming up with this plan. Thanks Donald.

I don't think that Trump realized how bad this makes him look to most people who are thinking "if you have the money, why aren't you making the donation no matter what?" Obviously, the POTUS is not going to drop everything, anytime some psychotic millionaire makes a youtube video, so the best thing that Trump could do is to make the donation on the 31st and play it like "I am going to be the big man and make the donation even though Obama didn't jump through my hoop."
If he doesn't make the donation to charity one way or another now, nobody will (nor should they) give him the time of day anymore. His 15 minutes of buffoonery are up.

Luckily, they barely are. I think that everybody took enough criticism after so much of the media following him through the whole birther nonsense and this is just a spin off of that. Even Foxnews.com, which used to be prime real estate for everything Trump, ignored this completely yesterday and even today, it is only a small little box at the bottom of their site. And this is a site that never draws the line as far as what ridiculous conservative news item that they are willing to feature.

Actually, NOT designating a single charity is a much better strategy. Theoretically, Obama is denying a windfall to every charity that thinks Obama supports them. It's the lottery model. Every charity has a potentially winning ticket but Obama won't scratch it. It's actually a no-win scenario for Obama that's why he wisely dismissed it as if it wasn't real. If he takes the money, he looks like a sell-out, has to choose winners and loosers amongst charities and has to disclose information that he'd rather keep secret. I'd score it 1 for Trump, 0 for Obama but it could have been a -1 for Obama so he made the best of it. But you got to believe there are some needy folks still thinking - "we sure could use some Obama-money!!"

Powell has never been held with less than the highest respect by somebody like myself, so don't make up some fantasy about how he was portrayed. He spoke what he believed to be the truth because that is what Bush/Cheney convinced him of. he is theonly one who has been honest about how he was even deceived on the WMDs. @ Evelyn why make such remarks? AS to Romney's school days we have already been taken back to HIGH School.
Quite a few PRIVATE sector job applications completed by us regular joes out here in the world ASK for grade point averages, Grad dates, degrees obtained and from where. (try to get a security clearance without it...)
So why wouldn't that be prudent data to get from PRESIDENTIAL candidates?
I have no problem asking EITHER or ALL candidates for the office these questions, race or creed plays no part. I even remember back in 2008 that candidate McCain was questioned about his birthplace.

There are some folks with questions about the "He was born in Hawaii" due to differences when compared with records of other citizen births during same period of time.

I love this. I am a Trump fan, but I do think he's quirky and strange, but oh my goodness this was a cool move. Out of the blue, and called the president out. Obama claimed he would be transparent in his previous campaign, so much so that he would have websites set up so people could see what was going on, but we know that crap never happened. Not only that, we no nothing about him. Donald Trump has the power and the money to make something like this happen or at the very least, put another question mark over Obama's head in people's minds. Trump is full of himself, his ego takes 4 seats on every plane he travels in and he has made several fortunes while getting paid to get media attention. He's the original Chumlee and makes the hair WORK...

@ Evelyn, it's been all over the news that the whole reason people want to see his transcripts is because they want to prove that he came here from another country as a foreign aid student (which would mean he isn't a citizen). It goes right along with all that birther stuff. And I don't get offended very often, but am that you would pull a race card on me. If you only knew who you were talking to. Your use of ...all black college students.... Why use the word black at all? My reasoning, as I said, was that it's been news for a long time that being an exchange student might imply that he's not a citizen. You used the word, then implied that that's what I meant. I don't keep race on my mind. I make my judgements on people by what they say and do, and the character that they display. Just clarifying that again.
