Who Do You Think Should Be Time Magazine's Person of the Year?

The nominees are in for 2012, so who do you think Time Magazine should choose? And why?

On Dec. 14, Time magazine will announce its Person of the Year—which isn’t guaranteed to be an actual man or woman. But in the run-up, the magazine has invited votes on 40 candidates, including Barack Obama, Gabby Douglas and Kim Jong Un. Some people have as many votes against them as for them. Included in the options are The Mars Rover and the Higgs Boson Particle.

So if it was up to you, who would you choose as the 2012 Time Person of the Year? And Why? (Doesn't necessarily have to be someone on the list)

Malala Yousafzai without a doubt for me, but it looks like the whole of North Korea voted, two or three times!

Apparently! Wow, you think he'll actually be named Person of the Year? That's a pretty wide margin of votes.

Remember, Hitler was once Time's man of the year.

Ed, the Person of the Year is the person who had the greatest effect on the news for the year. The recognition doesn't mean the nicest or best person of the year. That's why Adolph Hitler was named Person of the Year in 1938.

David Brown- If that is your and Times' definition of "Man of the year", both of you are yet another indicator of what is wrong with our country.

It's become quite a joke - something like the Nobel Peace Prize. I mean when a woman who wants the public to pay for her birth control and somebody named Pussy something is nominated??? (Really? Go look at the list).

Given the choices I voted for Felix Baumgartner. After having seen the 2 hour documentary depicting his struggle to accomplish a feat that NO man ever has I feel it's deserving.

It said that a person doesn't have to be on the list. What about Police Officer Larry DiPrimo whose picture was taken by a passerby of his giving a box of new boots to a homeless man? Here's an excerpt out of the story:
”Jennifer Foster of Florence, AZ was visiting Times Square with her husband Nov. 14 when they saw a shoeless man asking for change,”...she said (as she told her story to the NYPD)...:"Right when I was about to approach, one of your officers came up behind him. The officer said, I have these size 12 boots for you, they are all-weather. Let’s put them on and take care of you.’ The officer squatted down on the ground and proceeded to put socks and the new boots on this man,” Foster told the NYPD. “The officer expected NOTHING in return and did not know I was watching.”
I love this story and the picture that she snapped (the Officer was unaware) is priceless. She later went to NYPD and told her story and found out who he was.

Tammy
If you and I actually had a vote and it mattered, Officer DiPrimo would be on the cover of Time. Showing a servants heart is an incredible thing. When you think about what these officer's see every day, it warms my heart to see them maintain their desire to make a difference one person at a time. The officers I have gotten to know through ProjectLEO over the years have shown me this time and time again.

Well, Kenneth, we're living in the time prophecied in the bible where people are lovers of themselves. So, it's the ones that make the hollywood talk circuit (even our politicians do that) and go before congress to get others to pay for their extracurricular activities that make the front page now. Sad, isn't it?

My choice is Psy. There is so much division in our country and world. It is great that Psy provided a diversion from that division with "Gangnam Style" and that hilarious dance.

David - you have a great point. Psy did something that few others have managed to do -- put a smile on millions of faces and bring a little fun into our lives. Spreading joy and happiness should be worth at least a few votes.
