Special Olympics Forsyth Takes Part in Fashion Show

Athletes with Special Olympics Forsyth recently had a chance to try something a little different.

Ten athletes with Special Olympics Forsyth recently participated in the organization's second annual fashion show at The Avenue Forsyth, the event capping off Exceptional Children's Week.

Forsyth County Schools' Special Education Department in partnership with Barnes & Noble hosted the show at the bookstore on Sunday, March 4.

Special Olympics athletes modeled outfits, jewelry and other accessories from American Threads while volunteers from the West Forsyth High School Cosmetology Class donated their time to do the girls hair and make up.

"The models strutted their stuff inside Barnes & Noble to the latest tunes while proud parents, friends, coaches and other fans cheered them on," said Susan Darlington, Special Olympics Forsyth coordinator.

Special Olympics Forsyth County serves more than 300 athletes who participate in local games throughout the school year. In addition, athletes ages 8 to 60-plus participate in evening and weekend practices in order to compete at State Games and Invitationals.
