Two ribbon cutting ceremonies officially opened two new parks − Haw Creek Park and Chattahoochee Pointe Thursday – both located in south Forsyth County.

Haw Creek Park, located at 2205 Echols Road, spans approximately 85 acres. The park features an approximately 3.3-mile multi-use trail for both foot travel and mountain bikes. Pavilions and a multi-pod playground with a woodlands theme are also included among the park’s features.

Chattahoochee Pointe, an approximately 100-acre park located at 5790 Chattahoochee Pointe Drive off of Old Atlanta Road, borders the Chattahoochee River and features a canoe launch. Two pavilions, more than two miles of walking trails and a river-themed nature-inspired playground are also included at Chattahoochee Pointe.

A third park, Old Atlanta Park, had its ribbon cutting ceremony earlier today [Friday]. The approximately 39-acre park is located at 810 Nichols Road, at the intersection of Nichols Road and Old Atlanta Road, across from Lambert High School.

Old Atlanta Park’s 34 acres of passive use space features a natural playground, a tot-lot for children age six and under, two pavilions, a 1-mile walking trail and a spray pad.

The park’s remaining five acres house the 40,000-square foot Old Atlanta Park Recreation Center, which opened in February 2012.

Last Friday a ribbon cutting ceremony was held officially opening Caney Creek Preserve.

This makes a total of four new green space passive use parks opening in the county this month.

The Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond approved by Forsyth County voters in February 2008, funded acquisition of the land for these four new parks, according to a press release. Construction of the parks was funded by a combination of the Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond, Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) and Impact Fees.
