Ticket in Trash Turns into Treasure for Cumming Employee

Andrew Hunter, who works in Cumming, is $250k richer after retrieving lottery ticket he tossed in trash.

You know the old saying, "One man's trash is another man's treasure?" Well it just so happens that both hold true for Andrew Hunter, 24, of Dawsonville.

Hunter is $250,000 richer after playing Mega Millions with winnings from a tossed ticket, according to a news release from the Georgia Lottery.

“I didn’t realize you could win $3 for matching one number plus the Mega Ball,” Hunter said in a statement. “I pulled it out of the trash and cashed it in for three more tickets.”

Hunter, who works at Taco Mac in Cumming, plans to invest most of his money, though he is still surprised about his prize.

“I would have never bought that ticket if I hadn’t pulled the other ticket out of the trash,” he said. “I don’t think it’s really hit me yet.”

Winning numbers for the drawing on Tuesday, Nov. 15, were: 3-6-24-30-33 and the Mega Ball was 21. The QuikTrip located at 1655 Buford Highway sold the lucky Quik Pik ticket.

What would do if you won $250k? Me? Pay some bills, give some to my church, my mom and sock the rest.
