Two Arrested in Marijuana Grow House Bust in Forsyth County

More than 30 marijuana plants were found along with drug paraphernalia.

Authorities have busted a marijuana grow house located off Buford Dam Road in Forsyth County.

The narcotics unit of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office served a warrant at the residence Monday and found more than 30 marijuana plants growing in an indoor grow house.

"We found in the basement of the home, 32 marijuana plants between 5 feet and 7 feet high, said Sheriff Duane Piper. "We also discovered an unknown amount of marijuana buds that were drying and multiple pieces of equipment, such as lights and a filtering system that are used in an indoor grow house."

Robert Wesley Williams, 52, of 3250 Canon Bay, in Cumming, was arrested and charged with manufacturing marijuana. Also arrested, Melanie Dawn Phillips, 58, of Roswell. She was charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

Sheriff Piper said the discovery of the illegal operation began following a traffic stop on a vehicle around 11 p.m. Sunday on Georgia 400 near the intersection of Shiloh Road. During the traffic stop Sgt. Richard Thompson discovered some marijuana. After further investigation, information was provided to the sheriff's office that led investigators to securing a search warrant at the Canon Bay home.

Williams and Phillips were released Monday from the Forsyth County Detention Center. He on a $11,110 bond and she on a $1,155 bond. Williams is scheduled to appear in Superior Court Drug Court on Feb. 18. Phillips is scheduled to appear in State Court on April 19.

Editor's Note: An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Legalize it , control and tax it so government can profit from the sales instead of wasting millions on a war they can never win.

Wow.... now explain to me how having a little agricultural project in your own home is hurting anyone... Growing a plant is now referred to as 'manufacturing'?

I was told that his son was pulled over by the police, that evening. Coincidentlly, he was informing others that his father had been arrested, as the bust was taking place.
Let us say this...I would kill to have a father like this man. I am really sad that this has happened to him. I think his son would ---- his father for a quarter and throw him under a bus, for another one. Well, what do you know..I was right about him all along!

Obviously you don't have your facts right. What were you so right about? If you have something to say why don't you contact him directly instead of hiding behind a screen name on a chat. You know who I am so why don't you contact me and get your facts straight. Judge what you don't understand. I'll be surprised if you show your face.

need to legalize, because home operations are disgusting. i heard 1% of all energy use is for indoor pot because they use window A/C with the heat being dispersed to another room that must then be cooled by the central A/C.

i'm also disgusted by the officers claiming the "raid" was $50,000 (local paper), when dude was probably smoking it himself. for some reason i don't like the idea of them slapping themselves on the back and pretending that our streets are safer. if they truly get DEA funds for busts like this, then i understand their elation, but i don't think this bust has any affect on anybody but that pothead.

Hi Susy,

Thanks for your comment - what do you mean "get your story straight?" The information published here is straight from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.

I guess info they give out is to be over exaggerated for the news, and that wasnt directed at you, I was speaking in general. But it amazes me how MEDIA takes a hold of situations and makes sure its for everyone to see, if it wasnt for MEDIA most peoples business wouldn't be known.

Great job to the officers that help keep the Laws enforced. As a taxpayer I wouldn't mind seeing some time go into checking the backgrounds of people on here that believe drugs should be legalized. Our officers might be able to take more drugs off the streets.

For the record RESIDENT you shouldn't judge others regarding your comment on checking backgrounds on the ones that have made comments, everyone is entitled to have an opinion and or their own beliefs, because they have one dosen't mean they are criminals, I'm also a taxpayer and not a hypocrite!
