Loretta Lynn Contest Now Closed

The contest is now over; Patch will be emailing the winners this afternoon with details.

Editor's note: The contest closed at noon Wednesday. We will be emailing the winners Wednesday afternoon with the details. Thanks for all the entries!

Classic Chastain Concerts and Patch are offering you a chance to see a country legend -- Loretta Lynn.

We are giving away pairs of tickets -- one guest per winner -- to see her Friday, Aug. 24, at Chastain Park Amphitheater. Lynn's special guest will be Georgia-born singer-songwriter Sonia Leigh.

Lynn's tour marks her 50th anniversary on the country music scene. With "Coal Miner's Daughter," she was immortalized in a hit song that led to an autobiography and an Oscar-winning movie. Generations know of her epic journey from Kentucky coal country to Nashville superstar.

To enter the contest, all you have to do is post a comment at the bottom of this article. Just tell us why you'd like to go to the show. The deadline to comment is noon Wednesday, Aug. 22.

We’ll conduct a random drawing from the entries after the deadline. Winners will be emailed and can pick up their two tickets at Will Call the night of the concert. All winners will need to have a photo ID to claim the tickets.

Check out the Classic Chastain Concerts website for more details.

I related to Loretta Lynn all my life. I was raised in the North Georgia mountains as a copper miner daughter (1 of 5 girls). My father mined copper most of my childhood in Copperhill, Tn. Dad use to quote her song to me but inserted copper miner daughter as the lyrics. Would love to see Loretta Lynn as she brings back fond memories growing up in a small community of country folks.

When I was a little boy about 7 years old I remember mamma saying they were going to see a world famous country singer. The singer was Loretta Lynn. It was the one and only time of her life that mamma and daddy was able to afford tickets to a concert. They went and when mamma went to the ladies room a woman was in there needing help. She had busted the zipper on the back of her dress and couldn't get a safety pin in it. Mamma stood behind her and put the safety pin in for her. Then the woman turned around and mamma realized it was Loretta Lynn. They hugged and she thanked mamma and went on out to sing. Mamma told me years later her one and only time going to a concert was that one and she would always remember it. Mamma is gone now but I remember every time she talked about meeting Loretta Lynn she would smile. I'd like to go just so mamma could see Loretta Lynn again through my eyes.

Because "I was a borned a coal miner's daughter..." well not really. But she is my second favorite singer (Patsy Cline is the first). And I can recite "Coal Miner's Daughter" from memory. "...and Doo, that's my husband, he'll get to acting horny. And the more I laugh, the hornier he gets! He'll say, 'Hey Loretta, spread me up another one of them baloney sandwiches!"

Or my favorite exchange, Loretta: "I don't want no divorce. I jes want the dadgum bedroom in the back of the of the house. You put the bedroom in the front of the house and the sun comes in ever' mornin' at five o'clock and shines in my eyes. How'am I supposed to get any sleep?" Doo: "You ain't too ignorant to get up and pull down a set of window blinds are you?" Loretta: "No, and I ain't too ignorant to know that the bedroom don't belong in the front of the house where the livin' room oughta be."

And of course I know every word and beat of every one of her songs. So yeah, I need these tickets.

Born February 1960 in Oklahoma I grew up on country music with Daddy playing KFDI radio in our 1957 Chevrolet. Loretta Lynn was and always will be The First Lady in Country Music to us. Travelling with Mom and Daddy with the songs of Loretta Lynn on AM Radio driving up and down Route 66, Highway 60 or 77 and even on the back roads of Oklahoma will always be a memory for me. Memories made by coming home from Arkansas, California or Colorado vacation or heading to Grandma & Grandpa Brown’s house out near the Panhandle. :) 

I've been a fan for a LOOOOOONG time. My dad was a Dekalb County policeman back in the '60's and Loretta and the Wilburn Bros. were the entertainment at the Dekalb County Sheriff's Posse Rodeo. I had the opportunity to meet her and as a child would sit in her lap when she'd sit with the audience. She is a wonderful talent and even though it's years later, I still know the words to most all her hit songs. I honestly love her and what she stands for and would be thrilled to get to see her this time around.

I would love to see Loretta, I have been a fan of Loretta since the sixies. She is a real country girl,I always wanted to sing like her. I love her and Conway Twitty singing together. they seem to go together. She is the best singer of Country Music to me. I'm 64, and always wanted to see her, it will be a thrill to me.

Mrs. Lynn is A LEGEND period. Singers/Performers in this day and age can learn a lot from this great lady. I am "Working Girl" living her near the big city "In Another World" and miss "Living in God's Country", this would definately make me miss it way less and "Take Me Back Home Again" even if just for the evening. Whether you are looking at Mrs. Lynn or myself "You're looking at Country"! Chastain is the perfect place for "Wine, Women and Song".

I'd love to see Loretta Lynn because she is the epitome of the Queen of Country Music. She came from humble beginnings and rose to stardom through not only her wonderful vocal talent but hard work. She is an example for all who endeavor to be a musician in the world of performing live music.

real music to enjoy for an over due date night! my parents are having a sleepover with the kids and it would be amazing to suprise my husband with this special event! Running around all day juggling life sometimes you forget about the little things that make life special. Lorretta Lynne captures life stories in her music and I would love to share this with my best friend, my husband.

My 10 year old son loves Loretta Lynn and would love more than anything to see her in person. He went to the ranch this summer with his cousin. He sings Coal Miners Daughter to the top of his lungs daily. He admires her and I would love to suprise him with this gift.
