I wanted to share a story with you that shows not only do we live in a great community and are protected by fine men and women in uniform but also that technology can be used in some pretty awesome ways.
Two little boys (ages 2- and 3-years-old) snuck out of the house from an adjoining neighborhood and wandered through woods and into our neighborhood. My son and I were walking our dog around in our neighborhood. I noticed that the two boys did not have any parents with them so we followed them to the park. We watched them play for a few minutes and then as it was getting dark told them to lead us to their house.
Meanwhile the parents (who had not left them alone for long) were panic-stricken and organized a huge search party and contacted the police. There were about 10 units who showed up ready to get the boys home safe and used their technology to narrow the radius for searching. The little boys did not know where they lived (we asked them where they lived and they said Georgia...LOL how cute is that?) so I started posting on Facebook their picture and a little about them and where we were and every step we were taking.
We asked them to lead us to their house so we could take them home to their mommy and daddy. It started getting dark so we got off the nature trail we were walking on and just as I was about to dial 911, we heard people calling their names. We reunited them with a neighbor who in turn got them to their family.
Here is where the technology comes in – our neighborhood has a community Facebook page and the responses were almost immediate. One in particular was one of my neighbors that stated that there were boys missing from an adjoining neighborhood.
The neighbor, who took the boys, and the boys parents came by and thanked us personally (the parents also brought treats which included a bottle of wine and brownies).
I am glad we could help and proud of my son for helping! I told him he was a hero and the biggest smile came across his face. He will never forget that day and neither will I! God bless the boys and their families. I hate to think what might have happened had God not led me to get involved. God is good!
SO if your neighborhood does not have a Facebook page, start one today! Make that the first level of communication for a missing child (including the furry four legged ones).
