Moving Here from New York with Some Questions

New York has made many serious fiscal mistakes, as have many liberal states in the U.S. The county where I am coming from is bankrupt, with the highest real estate taxes in the U.S.

I came here after researching and observing the fairness of taxes and value in this community. But I am concerned as I watch new libraries, aquatic centers, and additional recreation centers being built.

There is no doubt the times are bad, revenues down in business', real estate, and yes what the government collects in taxes. With all this being said, I look at all the add-ons in this county, and I am seeing a rebirth of the Northeast’s mistakes.

Our existing libraries are sparse as compared to small local town libraries in N.Y., our recreation center and aquatic centers are used, but certainly can be consolidated; yet we are building more.

So what is going on? When does this stop? Why is the county not saving for a rainy day? Am I missing something? I admit I don’t know where these funds are coming from.

Pretty strange behavior for supposedly one of the "most conservative" counties in the country, isn't it?

Keep your eye on what happens with the excise tax on energy for manufacturers. The State eliminated the tax at the State level, but gave the local governments the ability to retain 2% of it to cover local option sales tax revenues. Just watch to see how these "conservatives" rally to make sure this tax cut does not get implemented in this county!

The other area you should look at is the BoE! They spend money like there's no tomorrow! (but, of course, it's for the kiddies)

Really disappointing to not have more answers here. I didn't make a statement, I asked a question. Does anyone have answers?
