Secession is a uniquely American principle as our nation was founded after secession from the British Empire. Secession is nothing more than breaking the political bands that bind one another. The first sentence in the Declaration of Independence defines it; “When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another ...” This Declaration of Independence was our secession document informing King George that we, the American people, desired to break the political bands that bound us to the British Empire.
In 1819 Maine seceded from Massachusetts and was admitted to the union as a self-governing state. In 1863 West Virginia seceded from Virginia and was admitted to the union as a self-governing state. At this moment in time there is a group gathering signatures to secede from Arizona and form a new state named Baja. The American people invented the principle of secession and we have urged many other nations to secede.
Over the past 20 years the world has witnessed more nations seceding than anytime in history. The United States government urged the countries in the Soviet Union to secede and in 1989 the Russian Soviet Empire broke apart and the people of the sovereign countries that formed the Soviet Union started to self-govern themselves. They are prospering and are free.
In the early 1990's the people of the Yugoslavian Soviet Empire wanted to self-govern themselves and Yugoslavia broke apart into sovereign countries of Serbia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Montenegro. The people are prospering and are free.
Many sovereign countries in the Middle East have revolted and broken the political bonds that ruled them. The people in Libya, Egypt, and Tunisia revolted and broke the political bonds that governed them. The people in Syria are engaged in secession and I predict they will win. When the people desire a change to their government they will win.
We now live in a post constitutional republic and our federal overlords in Washington DC no longer rule by the constitution; they just do things they want. Our overlords dictate what light bulbs, toilets, and shower heads that we may use. Our overlords tell us we must buy government health insurance plans and they destroy jobs with rules and regulations. If we can agree that the national government is broken, why remain part of this government? The states created the national government and we have every right to break those political bands that join us.
We need to secede from this union and the most effective way to do it is contact your state representative and state senator.

Bill, I respect your point of view even when I do not agree with it. My worry is this: is President Nathan Deal the right person to lead us through this??
