For the 24^th year, Northside Hospital-Forsyth will honor those affected by cancer with the lighting of the giant Christmas tree atop its campus in Cumming. The tree will be lit Saturday, Dec. 1, with a free community celebration from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

This annual holiday tradition is expected to bring together more than 3,000 people and will include entertainment from Settles Bridge Elementary, Haw Creek Elementary, Born to Dance, Pine Grove Middle School, the Sawnee Ballet, Coal Mountain Elementary and Forsyth Central High School; photos with Santa Claus and many other activities for the kids. For the sixth consecutive year, WSB-TV anchor Fred Blankenship will serve as the emcee.

A National Cancer Institute Community Cancer Center, Northside Hospital is one of the largest and most respected providers of comprehensive cancer services in the Southeast, combining the latest in technology and research with compassionate patient-centered care. Each light on the Christmas tree represents someone whose life has been touched by cancer. Lights can be purchased and designated in honor or memory of physicians, family and friends, with all proceeds benefiting research, education and treatment through Northside’s Cancer Institute. Lights will be available for purchase at the Celebration of Lights event on Dec. 1 and throughout the holiday season.
