Rain Turns Chance of Sleet, Snow for Cumming

A wind advisory, flood warning and flood watch also are set for Forsyth County.

A day and night of steady rain coupled with dropping temps means likely sleet and a slight chance of snow for Cumming early Wednesday morning through noon, according to the National Weather Service, which has issued a wind advisory, flood warning and flood watch for Forsyth County.

Sleet is likely Wednesday after 4 a.m., with accumulations of less than a half inch possible. Snow showers and sleet are likely before 11 a.m., then a slight chance of flurries and sleet between 11 a.m. and noon, according to the NWS' forecast for Cumming

wind advisory in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday warns of northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. High winds could down weak trees and tree branches, make driving high-profile vehicles difficult and lead to frostbite if a person is not properly clothed.

A flood warning for Big Creek, which affects Forsyth and Fulton counties, in effect from late Tuesday night through late Thursday night, warns of minor flooding along the waterway from near Cumming in south Forsyth County to Alpharetta to Roswell.

"The Big Creek Greenway experiences significant flooding, which results in closure of most of the walking and biking paths," the warning says. "This especially occurs upstream and downstream from the gage on Kimball Bridge Road and Rock Hill Park. A large portion of the YMCA campground off Preston Ridge Road will be flooded."

flood watch in effect for north Georgia since 7 a.m. Tuesday remains active through Wednesday morning, and warns of storm total rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches. Storm drains and ditches may become quickly clogged with debris and leaves, which could cause extensive street flooding and road ponding.
