Sign Up For Forsyth's Citizens' Law Enforcement Academy

The free, 10-week course starts Feb. 3 in Cumming.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office hopes to strengthen the bond with the citizens it serves by offering law enforcement knowledge and training to civilians.

Its Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy is a free, 10-week course set to meet from 7 to 10 p.m. on consecutive Mondays. The next session begins Feb. 3, 2014, and FCSO is taking applications.

The academy is open to all Forsyth County residents, employees and business owners and provides students with hands-on training and law enforcement knowledge in a friendly environment, according to the press release.

The course, manned by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, closely follows the actual hands-on training deputies undergo. All instructors in the program are Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office employees. 

Topics include Constitutional law, conducting traffic stops, judgmental use of force, K-9 and S.W.A.T. demonstrations, ride-alongs with deputies and much more.

The department's goal is to build a closer bond with the citizens and business owners of Forsyth County through communication and education.

It's currently accepting applications for the first 2014 class and those interested may sign up now.
