Bill Walker to Campaign for State Rep. in District 25

Walker said his strong opposition to Common Core motivated him to seek the office.

CUMMING, Ga. -- Republican Bill Walker, CIO and Director of Media at the Oxford Center for Entrepreneurs in Atlanta, announced today he will campaign for State Representative in District 25.

Walker, an active member of First Redeemer Church in Forsyth County, said his strong opposition to Common Core motivated him to seek the office.

"Common Core is the Obamacare of education," Walker said. "It's an attempt by an overreaching and powerful centralized government to sabotage public and private school education and it must be stopped. The incumbent supports Common Core. He went to Hall and Gwinnett counties to rally support for it. But I will be a very strong and outspoken opponent."

Walker added, "Proponents say Common Core is nothing more than standardized testing. But that's just the first step. Once they standardize testing, they're going to dictate what teachers can teach and which textbooks can be used to teach it."

As a Republican and fiscal conservative, Walker said keeping taxes low, attracting and generating new jobs, and continuing the economic recovery are other important issues he will support.

Another issue Walker plans to address is water independence. "It's time Forsyth County had its own water withdrawal permit," Walker said. "I realize this is an uphill battle, but it's one I will take on as State Representative. Some county commissioners have said it's a fight our state lawmakers have avoided."

Walker holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Applications from the University of Alabama where he was a member of the Mallet Assembly Men's Honors Program. He has nearly 30 years of professional experience in information technology, telephony, and broadcast television.
