Cumming set to Light The Night with Walk to Fight Blood Cancers

The Georgia Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) announces the 3rd Annual North Metro Light The Night Walk (LTN), to be held on Saturday, September 28, at 5pm at the Cumming Fairgrounds. The Walk encourages teams of families, friends, co-workers and local and national corporations to come together to raise funds for LLS. This will be one of five Light The Night Walks held in the state of Georgia this Fall. As inspiration for the Walk, LLS selects an honored hero that is fighting leukemia.

Hanna, a beloved daughter and big sister, is this year’s honored hero. She was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and has been undergoing treatment for about two and a half years. Hanna has dreams of attending Emory University to study genetics. She has kept a positive attitude throughout her treatment and is determined not to let blood cancer get the best of her. Hanna is looking forward to being a part of the Walk.

“We are pleased to have honored hero Hanna a part of the Walk. We have received a tremendous amount of support from the local community in Forsyth, Gwinnett and North Fulton counties and it really shows in the enthusiasm demonstrated by our partners, sponsors and Walk teams for the Light The Night Walk. We are working to reach our goal of $320,000 and we cannot do it without the many volunteers and participants who have helped with this Walk,” said Emily Kallos, LTN Senior

The North Metro Walk will draw over 70 teams and 2,500 participants, and funds raised will be used to fund lifesaving blood cancer research, free educational materials and events for patients and families, local family and patient support programs and comprehensive, personalized assistance through LLS’s Information Resource Center. During the event, walkers carry illuminated balloons - white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones lost to cancer -- and form a community of caring, bringing light to the dark world of cancer.

The Walk’s presenting sponsors are Northside Hospital Cancer Institute and Infor.
