Weiss Receives Support From Major Anti-Common Core Group

Georgians to Stop Common Core Call Mark Weiss a Champion to Students
CUMMING, Ga. -- Mark Weiss, Republican candidate for Forsyth County Board of Education in District 1, today received the support of the 1,300-member Georgians to Stop Common Core.

In announcing the group's support for Weiss, co-founder Teri Sasseville said, "Georgians to Stop Common Core is passionate about freeing our students from this one-size-fits-all program  incentivized by the federal government's promise of financial rewards. We're proud to support strong anti-Common Core candidates like Mark Weiss. He is a true champion in this movement."

Weiss said he was honored to have the group's support.

"This is a major boost to our grassroots campaign," Weiss said Wednesday.
"Georgians to Stop Common Core is leading the fight statewide to free Georgia's students from the grasp of the federal government. There is no organization whose support I would rather have. I am extremely grateful to Teri Sasseville."

Weiss called Common Core a flawed experiment that was not field tested before being implemented in Georgia.

"I am the only No Common Core candidate in this race," Weiss said.

"Common Core  fails to prepare students for STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, math). It also leaves out major topics in trigonometry and pre-calculus. Students don't take a full course of Algebra until high school. Even James Milgram, a math professor who served on the Common Core validation committee, says, it puts students at least two years behind their peers in high-performing countries, and leaves them ill-prepared for authentic college course work.”

Weiss attended Florida State University and worked for 13 years in the Florida Attorney General's Office before moving to Forsyth County.
