Cumming Aquatic Center Officially Opens Tuesday

Mayor H. Ford Gravitt and members of city council will officially open the Cumming Aquatic Center with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.

The facility opened to the public on June 27 and is currently averaging between 900 to 950 visitors daily (this includes the leisure, competition and instructional pools), according to Greg Little, director of recreation and parks.

The 50,000-square foot facility, designed by the Howell Group of Marietta, cost nearly $15 million. It features an outdoor leisure pool (including a lazy river with jet propellers, a 156-foot water slide, and a splash and play area). Inside visitors can swim in the 10-lane competition pool, a 25-yard, four lane therapy pool with bench seating (see video).

According to the aquatic center schedule–the operating hours for all pools are as follows:

Leisure Pool (opened from Memorial Day until Labor Day) with two daily pool sessions scheduled at specific times with specific fees. The pool is cleared for 30 minutes between the sessions to allow staff and maintenance crews to regroup and get ready for the next session.

• *Monday-Friday: 10 a.m.  to 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
• Saturday: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
• Sunday: 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

*Beginning August 11 through Labor Day, September 5, weekday times will chance to 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Competition Pool

• Monday-Friday: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Sunday: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Instructional Pool

• Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
• Tuesday, Thursday: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Sunday: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
