Cumming Loses Parking Spaces as More Construction Gets Underway Around Courthouse

Shuttles will be available for those summoned for jury duty.

Downtown Cumming will soon have hundreds of new parking spaces, but that will cost some short-term pain.

Site preparation for the new Mason Street Parking Facility is expected to begin in April. Along with the Castleberry Parking Facility, which is currently under construction, the new parking is part of the courthouse and jail project approved by voters.

The five-level, 491-space Mason Street Parking Facility will be built near the County Administration Building, which will require a construction fence resulting in the loss of a section of public parking spaces and a section of county employee parking spaces.

The three-level, 222-space Castleberry Parking Facility at the intersection of Castleberry Road and Maple Street is expected to open for use in May.

A note from the county for those arriving for jury duty:

For Those Receiving a Summons for Jury Duty Forsyth County will continue to provide designated parking and shuttling for those summoned for jury duty. On the day you first report for jury duty, parking will be available in a designated area of the Cumming Fairgrounds parking lot off of Castleberry Road across from the Fairgrounds lot.

From this parking area, those summoned for jury duty may choose to ride a shuttle or walk to the County Administration Building. The shuttle will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on jury summons days only for travel between the designated parking area and the County Administration Building.

Those summoned for jury duty should allow extra time in the morning and be prepared to show their jury summons to board the shuttle. General questions about jury service should be directed to the Forsyth County Clerk of Courts’ office at jury@forsythco.com or 770.781.2120 ext. 3106. Visit www.forsythclerk.com for updates.
