Cumming Observes International Day of Peace Wednesday

This year's theme is "Make Your Voice Heard" and will highlight the environment, the economy, jobs and Jesus.

The International Day of Peace will be observed in downtown Cumming with a march and short program at City Hall, which includes Mayor H. Ford Gravitt, Wednesday morning, Sept. 21.

This year’s theme, "Make Your Voice Heard," will highlight four points of concern; the environment, the economy, jobs and Jesus, according to Sharon Gunter, Chairwoman.

The public is invited to join in a march on the side walk down to City Hall. Interested participants are asked to gather in the parking lot at the corner of Maple Street and Castleberry Road, on the square in downtown Cumming at  9:30 a.m. The march will begin at 9:45 a.m. and a short program will follow at 10 a.m.

During tonight's city council meeting Mayor Gravitt and council will issue a proclamation in honor of the event.

The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the U.N. General Assembly.

In 2002 the General Assembly officially declared September 21 as the permanent date for the International Day of Peace.
