A retired Army Senior Non-Commissioned Officer is the 2013 Member of the Year for the Cumming Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America.

The Forsyth County Veterans Group named Allen “Lee” Russell for its annual pick as the individual whose work on behalf of the organization during the year was exemplary, according to the news release.

In singling-out the former Command Sergeant Major, VVA Chapter 1030 President Billy Darby said, “Allen Russell works tirelessly on behalf of this organization and the veterans of Forsyth County and is most deserving of this honor.”

Russell served in the U.S. Army for 30 years, including two tours in Vietnam. He resides in Cumming with this wife, Becky.

The chapter also used the final meeting of the year to recognize two businesses for their support of military veterans. Ingram Funeral Home of Cumming and SCCY Industries, a firearms manufacturer with offices in Acworth, were recognized with Distinguished Service Awards.
