Forsyth County Fire Safety Poster Contest Underway

Local third grade students are invited to display their artistic talents while promoting a commitment to fire safety.

The second annual Forsyth County Fire Safety Poster Contest is underway and all local third grade students are invited to display their artistic talents while promoting a commitment to fire safety.

Three winners will enjoy a pizza party with their class and local firefighters, and along with three runners up, will have the honor of having their artwork displayed in county buildings.

The contest is open to all Forsyth County third grade public, private and homeschooled students.

"We had a really great response last year when we held our first Fire Safety Poster Contest," said Capt. Jason Shivers. "We are looking forward to hopefully receiving even more entries this year."

The contest is a way to promote the involvement of local young people while increasing fire safety awareness, according to Fire Chief Danny Bowman.

"One of the department’s goals is to prevent incidents from occurring through public education," he said. "This poster contest is a wonderful way to do just that. We are hopeful that, while creating their posters, the students will talk to their parents about fire safety. It really becomes a way we can engage not only our youngsters but our entire community in a very positive way."

Your third grader is encouraged to submit their own original designs and artwork. Posters should be created on paper (minimum dimensions of 8.5” by 11” and maximum dimensions of 18” by 24”) with the required release form securely attached to the back.

Posters will not be accepted if they are on poster board. Clipart and copyrighted characters or logos will also not be accepted.

Posters should be submitted no later than March 16, 2012 to the following address:

Fire Department of Forsyth County
Attn: Michele Cranford
