Deputy First Class Troy Embrey and Deputy First Class Ted Baxter were nominated for the honors by their supervisors and precinct commanders.

Dozens of deputies, staff and family members gathered together for a ceremony recognizing the North and South Precinct Deputies of the Year for the Uniform Patrol Division of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office for 2012.

Deputy First Class Troy Embrey and Deputy First Class Ted Baxter were nominated for the honors by their supervisors and precinct commanders.

"These deputies embody the very best of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office," said Sheriff Duane Piper.

DFC Embrey, North Precinct Deputy of the Year, was selected based on his work ethic and personal drive to keep the county safe, said Capt. Mark Hoffman, commander of the Uniform Patrol Section.

Some examples include, Embrey's methodical investigate actions, which led to the arrest of several burglaries in February, his quick response to calls that led to the rescue of a missing Alzheimer’s patient in March, and his swift recognition of and attention to critical needs, which helped a motorcycle crash victim recover from serious injuries last September.

Embrey thanked his wife as well as several of his fellow deputies, his commander and the new sheriff.

"I've learned a lot from each and every one of you and thank you very much for being here. Thank you for the support. I'm excited to be part of your agency now," he said.

Capt. Hoffman praised DFC Baxter, South Precinct Deputy of the Year, for his consistent recognition of and action on suspicious activity.

Last August while patrolling near a local business, DFC Baxter noticed a flash of light in a business he knew was closed and should not be occupied at that time. He proceeded to check things out by first searching the business parking lot. While doing so, Baxter ran into a man whose flashlight was the light he saw earlier. After questioning the man, Baxter located wire cutters and a reciprocating saw. The man then admitted that he was in the business parking lot to steal catalytic converters from the vehicles that were located there.

"This is just one example of DFC Baxter's commitment to apprehending criminals and keeping the county safe," said Capt. Hoffman.

During the ceremony, Baxter thanked his wife for her support and said that he's learned a lot from those at the sheriff's office.

"I enjoy working for Forsyth County and I hope it shows with everybody I work with," he said.
