Forsyth County Parks Director Receives State Award

Jerry Kinsey, director of Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Department, was selected for the prestigious recognition by his peers from throughout the state.

Jerry Kinsey, Forsyth County's parks and recreation director, was recently presented with the District 7 Distinguished Professional Administrator of the Year Award.

The award, given by the Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA), recognizes those who have made outstanding and lasting contributions to the administration aspect of the recreation profession in Georgia, according to a news release.

Kinsey, who earned this distinction in 1997, was selected by his peers from throughout the state.

Cindy J. Mills, a member of the Parks and Recreation Board, said in a statement, “Through coaching youth athletics and serving on the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Board, I have witnessed the skill, integrity and dedication that Jerry Kinsey demonstrates daily in his role as director of our county's Parks and Recreation Department."

Kinsey who has been in the parks and recreation field for more than 36 years, began serving as parks director for the county in 1985. He has overseen the substantial growth of the county’s park system. In that same year there were only two parks covering approximately 30 acres, today there consists of more than 2,600 acres.

Kinsey received his award on Oct. 19 at a banquet held in Gainesville.

“His receipt of this well-deserved accolade is truly indicative of the high esteem in which he is held by his staff, as well as by all facets of the community.”
