Forsyth Kids Have a Merry Christmas

The Marcus Stroud Charitable Foundation recently partnered with Mentor Me North Georgia to provide Christmas cheer to about 40 kids.

Marcus Stroud, NFL star and former UGA Bulldog, recently spread holiday cheer and shopped with some very special kids in Forsyth County involved with Mentor Me North Georgia.

The Marcus Stroud Charitable Foundation, created in 2008 when Marcus was playing for the Buffalo Bills, partnered with the non-profit organization to provide Christmas cheer to about 40 kids. Each child was given a $50 Walmart gift card, to be used to buy a gift for someone they know and then to pick out a gift for themselves.

"Thank you to Walmart and Mentor Me for making this event such a success," said Sylvia Cardona, Mentor Me's executive director.

Most of the children in the mentoring program live in single-parent homes, or are living with grandparents or foster parents. A survey of children involved in the Forsyth County program showed that 81 percent experienced increased self-confidence and self-esteem. Also, 92 percent maintained or demonstrated improvement in academic performance and behavior.

Mentor Me is a Forsyth County United Way agency. However, the organization depends on private donations for 50 percent of its funding. To volunteer or make a tax-deductible donation, contact Sylvia Cardona at 678-341-8028 or send her an e-mail. To learn more visit the website.
