Forsyth Warns Water, Sewer Customers of Fraudulent Calls

A person posing as a representative of the Forsyth County Water and Sewer Department is calling customers and asking for credit card payments.

The Forsyth County Water and Sewer Department wants its customers to be aware of potentially fraudulent telephone calls coming from someone claiming to be part of the county agency.

The department on Friday sent out a press release, stating a person claiming to be a representative from the department has called and demanded customers submit credit card payments over the phone.

The caller has been calling customers during evening hours, according to the release.

"While the county does make courtesy calls to advise customers of an outstanding balance on their account and will accept credit card payment over the phone, payment will never be demanded over the phone," the department said in the release.

The department, the release added, does not call customers for billing matters in the evening.

Citizens who receive these calls should call the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office immediately by calling the non-emergency dispatch line at (770) 781-3087.

Customers should never provide personal information such as their account number over the telephone and those who've received a call should insist the person calling provide such information.
