Get Out Cumming: 5K Race, Family Fun Festival

Fall is in full speed with fundraisers, theatrical performances and festivals.

Around Cumming

Where/When: , 405 Peachtree Pky, Cumming, Saturday, Sept. 24, 7:30 a.m. –9:30 a.m.

Why Go?: Run with the World! Run for the World! R4TW is a global initiative raising awareness and funds for international and local projects focusing on community development and sports ministry. This race will raise funds locally for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Forsyth and Dawson counties supporting sports ministry in public schools and community ball fields.

Where/When: Fowler Park, 4110 Crossland Dr, Cumming, Sunday, Sept.  25, noon - 5 p.m.

Why Go?: This event will feature a variety of family-friendly entertainment and activities including games, inflatable’s, face painting, music, an arts and crafts market, community expo, food and more. This is a great opportunity for families to come out and enjoy the park and all of the festivities.

Price: Free

Where/When: Thirteen locations around Lake Lanier, Saturday, Sept. 24, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Why Go? Keep Forsyth County Beautiful and the Lake Lanier Association are working together to clean Lake Lanier. Forsyth County locations participating in the event include Bald Ridge Marina, Habersham Marina, and Port Royale Marina. Volunteers report to a participating location to pick up trash bags and a shore line area assignment for trash collection. All volunteers turning in at least one full bag of trash receive a t-shirt. Advance registration for the event is not required, but it helps in scheduling shoreline coverage. Please contact lakeinfo@lakelanier.org.

Where/When: , 101 School St, Cumming, Thursday, Sept. 20 - Saturday, Sept. 24, 8 p.m.

Why Go?: Set in post civil war Alabama, this classic tells the story of Annie Sullivan and her student, blind and mute Helen Keller. The Miracle Worker dramatizes the volatile relationship between the lonely teacher and her charge. This 2011 presentation of the Miracle Worker is produced and directed by Gypsy Theatre Company. A portion of this show’s proceeds will go to The Forsyth County Lions Club and their work with sight conservation and the blind in our community.

Price: $20 with requested donation to Lions Club

Around Alpharetta

Where/When: , 10960 State Bridge Rd, Alpharetta, Friday, Sept. 23 and Saturday, Sept. 24, 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Why Go?: Get up close and personal with North Atlanta Dance Theatre and enjoy three original Contemporary Works by talented choreographers and dancers. Heavy hors d'oeuvres and wine before the event, coffee and dessert afterward. Annual Fundraiser!

Where/When: , 9770 Autry Mill Rd, Alpharetta, Saturday, Sept. 24, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Why Go?: A fun, family celebration of all things Wild: Petting Zoo, Puppet Show at noon, Creature-Feature Lab, Mr. Ben's Reptile Show, Bug Tent, Animal themed crafts, activities, and lots more.

Price: $5 for member, $7 for non-member; Maximum $20 for member, $25 for non-member family

Where/When: , 5230 Taylor Rd, Alpharetta, Sunday, Sept. 25, 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Why Go?: Unlimited samples from 50 participating restaurants. Entertainment includes kids sensations Tyna Q, Mandy Gawley, Music Matters! A KidsZone with a Moon Bounce with slide, Inflatable Obstacle Course, Dunking Booth, Face Painting, Johns Creek Fire Truck on display and more!

Where/When: 35 Milton Ave, Alpharetta, GA, Saturday, Sept. 24, 10 a.m.

Why Go?: Enjoy art intown, across from Alpharetta City Hall, as 35 artists will be offering beautiful artwork for sale and some artists may be exhibiting their talent as well. Event will be held rain or shine. Also enjoy the thriving Farmers Market which takes place each Saturday morning in the area beside City Hall.

Where/When: Sanctuary Park, 1185 Sanctuary Pkwy, Alpharetta, 7 a.m.

Why Go?: Join the 2011 Overcome Ovarian Cancer Three Mile Walk, a day of celebrating, honoring, and remembering gynecologic cancer survivors, their families, caregivers and friends. Strollers and pets are welcomed. Proceeds raised will support the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance (GOCA) community outreach programs.

Around Roswell

Where/When: , 535 Barrington Dr, Roswell, Friday - Saturday, Sept. 23 – 24, 8 p.m.

Why Go?: The crown rests uneasily on King Henry IV. His right to rule is in question, a rebellion is imminent, and his son, Prince Hal, would rather be a tavern-crawling brigand than a knight. William Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Part 1 is part history, part comedy, and all entertaining.

Why Go?: In this comedy, Stella is the aging star of the popular Ritz Theatre. She and her fellow company of actors are preparing for the epic play "Civil War Darlin's," when a visit to a rehearsal changes everything! Between the director, playwright, cast, visiting reporters and a set of twins, things get interesting quickly!

Where/When: , 11458 Alpharetta Hwy, Roswell, Saturday, Sept. 24 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sunday noon – 4 p.m.

Why Go?: United BMW Roswell is hosting a car show this weekend as a preview to the 1,000 mile Petit Le Mans race at Road Atlanta on Oct. 1. The event will showcase some of BMW Motorsports racing heritage.
