Get Out: Things To Do This Weekend

Enjoy this spring weekend with Earth Day activities and by learning how to plant a garden, hunt Easter eggs, enjoy music or a play.

Where/When: 3560 Settingdown Rd. (inside Coal Mountain Park), Cumming, Friday, April 22

  • 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. - Pre-school dragonfly classes at
  • 11:30 a.m. - “The Gross Graffiti Cover-Up” book reading by Denise Carleton with Reaping Nature Productions at Coal Mountain Park Pavilion
  • 12:30 p.m. - “Enviroscape” class on point source and non-point source water pollution at Coal Mountain Park Pavilion
  • 5:30 p.m. - Adult rain barrel class (must pre-register) will instruct you on how to make and take home a completed rain barrel. The class takes place at Coal Mountain Park Community Building. The cost is $40.

Where/When: Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park, 2200 Encore Pkwy, Alpharetta, Friday April 22,  7:30 p.m.

Why Go: This concert is benefiting rebuilding efforts in Haiti. Presented by Six Step Records & Passion City Church. The event will include the music of Louie Giglio, Chris Tomlin, Christy Nockels and Kristian Stanfill as a part of the celebration.

Where/When: Swallow at the Hollow, 1072 Green St, Roswell, Friday, April 22, 10 p.m., Saturday, April 23 concert SOLD OUT

Why Go: Four classically trained sisters explore and create music that transcends traditional genres, blending country, pop, rock, and more to create a mesmerizing musical experience. In August, this talented young band took center stage as the opener for Sarah Mclachlan's Chastain Park show in Atlanta. They have continued to perform at a variety of venues and festivals in the Southeast.

SAFFT's 1st Annual Spring for Hope Benefit

Where/When: The Foster House, 305 W. Main St., Cumming, Saturday, April 23, 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Why Go: You are cordially invited to SAFFT's 1st Annual Spring for Hope Benefit. Guests will enjoy a lovely brunch on the back patio of The Foster House. Activities include children's table for brunch with the Easter Bunny, an Easter egg hunt, family portraits by Ananchel Photography, silent auction items and a children's playhouse raffle. Guests will also have the opportunity to hear a lovely story from a child who was in foster care and where he is today.

*Receive a complimentary mimosa for wearing a "Big Hat or Bow Tie." Sunday attire encouraged*

Why Go:  Spring and summer weather brings time for festive outdoor entertaining, and Pike Nurseries can help any homeowner assemble colorful and decorative planters that will wow any guest. At this seminar, Pike Nurseries garden experts will educate customers on the simple steps to choosing the right plants and assembling a container garden to hold “thriller, filler and spiller” plants.

Easter Eggstravaganza

Where/When: Christ Community Church, 5455 Campground Rd., Cumming, Saturday, April 23, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Why Go: The Easter Eggstravaganza will feature egg hunts with 15,000 candy eggs (for children and young adults of all ages), giveaways, inflatables, games for all ages, fun stations, food & more.
